Duke University is Hiring a DEPARTMENT COORDINATOR, UNIVERSITY NORTH GIFT SHOP Near Durham, NC

Job Summary
Opening for a full-time Department Coordinator in the Duke North Hospital Gift Shop. Coordinate the Gift Shop operation under the direction of the Gift Shop management team. This operation is open 365 days per year. The Department Coordinator is responsible for front-end activities (including assisting customers, operating a cash terminal, and merchandising products) and back-end duties (including receiving).
Responsibilities
Coordinate day-to-day operations of the Duke North Hospital Gift Shop to ensure retail sales floors are well stocked and creatively merchandised; ensure efficient customer service. Evaluate inventory movement and advise management of recommendations to properly display, move products to different locations, etc.
Evaluate market trends, analyze new merchandise to determine selling potential, and commit university funds to order new stock based on evaluations; evaluate existing merchandise in other units and/or immediate units and make decisions concerning the appropriateness of stock and removal from the sales floor. Must be able to maintain proper inventory levels in a fast-paced customer-driven retail environment.
Perform various routine clerical functions in the recording and reporting of information required for accurate and up-to-date departmental records; process incoming and outgoing forms and documents according to operating procedures; monitor and participate in inventories of merchandise.
Receive deliveries and process mail orders according to procedures; verify quantities and items against packing slips, invoices, and purchase orders; ensure merchandise received is in good condition. Work with volunteers to ensure deliveries are made in a timely manner.
Monitor and participate in the pricing of new merchandise to ensure correct price and department code; evaluate and participate in the creative display of merchandise on the sales floor. Evaluate the movement of clothing merchandise and advise Store Supervisor accordingly.
Assist customers in selecting products and recommending additional purchases; answer customer calls and inquiries and resolve customer complaints; ensure appropriate loss prevention policies are adhered to. Operate point-of-sale cash register as needed, processing cash and non-cash transactions.
Enter new inventory products into NetSuite and ensure margins are correct. Perform inventories as scheduled; take counts of sale, reduced, damaged, and discounted merchandise; note
markdown of merchandise and dispose of merchandise according to procedures.
Monitor work of lower level and student employees; notify supervisor of problems that cannot be resolved.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles to maintain proper inventory counts and to handle sales transactions, generally acquired through a high school education.
Experience
Work generally requires 6 months of retail store experience including OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE cash register operation experience.
