Occupational Summary
Perform and troubleshoot electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, or paint projects and systems, equipment and related devices. Assign, direct and review the work of Duke and contract labor team. Inspect and certify work is in compliance with state and local codes. Plan, estimate and commission new installations or renovation of existing systems and equipment. Assist in the training of personnel in safe construction practices in healthcare. Act as shop supervisor when the supervisor is absent. Provide periodic reviews of Duke personnel and contract labor as assigned.

Education/Training: Work requires educational background normally equivalent to a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Work requires six years in construction or maintenance. Requires an active North Carolina contractor's license in the required discipline, if applicable; valid N.C. driver's license and a driving history acceptable under the guidelines of the Safe Driving Policy required.

Skills: Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written, with employees, management and customers. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in routine and emergency situations. Must respect the privacy of patients and maintain the confidentiality of any patient information related to their treatment. Ability to complete daily records, logs, time sheets, and required reports.
