JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Clinical Technician II to perform a variety of technical procedures involved in the drawing, processing and shipment of patient specimens in an ambulatory care setting. Serve as the office liaison related to the lab process and communication with processing laboratory.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Perform a variety of routine blood drawing procedures to include venipuncture, techniques using standard equipment to include vacutainer tubes, tourniquets, syringes and butterfly needles.

* Confer with patient to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears and elicit cooperation

* Utilize standard procedures for the maintenance of positive patient identification; record appropriate collection information on proper requisitions.

* Centrifuge, label and store blood samples for subsequent analysis by Clinical Laboratory staff.

* Maintain inventory of supplies and reorder as needed based off stocked supplies; stock supplies

* Obtain training to perform resting ECGs.

* Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

* High School diploma or GED. For assignment to phlebotomy, completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation recommended.

* Minimal educational or experience requirements may be modified on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment) director if minimal CLIA requirements are met by the employee for the tasks being performed.

* Must have at least 2 years' experience as a Clinical Tech I or Certification as a Phlebotomist plus achieve the required competency level for specified job responsibilities.

* For assignment to Phlebotomy Services, certification as a Phlebotomist by a nationally recognized board/agency is required.

* National Healthcare Association (NHA) --Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomy Examination (CLPlb), American Society of Clinical Pathologists-- Phlebotomy Technician Examination [PBT(ASCP)], International Academy of Phlebotomy Sciences (IAPS), National Phlebotomy Association (NPA), American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT), National Phlebotomy Certification Examination (NPCE), or another national certification as approved by Clinical Labs leadership.
