This position supports all hardware, software and head-end interface equipment required to support Duke Energy Florida's (DEF) Demand Response (DR) Operations and the associated system architecture. The position is primarily responsible for the reliable operation of the Load Management Control (LMC) system. Duties include the design, development, coding, testing, and maintenance of the real-time control software applications, as well as the monitoring and management of associated hardware components that make up the LMC Headend. Maintained hardware includes network servers, the remote transmission controller, the advanced simulcast controller, 28 radio transmitters, 28 transmitter monitor units (TMU) and 6 monitor/receivers. This position is responsible for the software applications for the EnergyWise Home (EWH), Interruptible Service (IS), Curtailable Service (CS), and the Standby Generation (SBG) controls and notifications, as well as the associated data management and meter read card production.
This position provides support and operational guidance for the Energy Control Center (ECC) for all aspects of the LMC system prior to and during system deployment and provides training for ECC System Operators. Additional duties include data management for the EWH/IS/CS/SBG programs and distribution of messages through the LMC's notification system. This position oversees the notification system to ensure program status awareness during control events and activation of the General Load Reduction Plan (GLRP). This position is required to manage projects for upgrades or enhancements to the load management infrastructure, including guiding future technology decisions by providing subject matter expertise for enhancements to the system's design and integration.
Responsibilities:
Operate, monitor, and maintain DR real-time system software, hardware, databases, and telecommunications equipment
Monitor and coordinate maintenance of the load management transmitter network infrastructure to ensure continuous reliable operation of the DEF load management system
Analyze DR operations data, forecast and develop capital and O&M budget requirements, and generate system reports
Manage the DEF load management notification system to ensure program status awareness during EWH/IS/CS/SBG events and activation of the General Load Reduction Plan
Assist in coordinating service and inspection of interruptible, curtailable, and standby generation accounts
Provide technical assistance for other internal employees and departments
Next Generation DR architecture / Smart Grid Subject Matter Expert (SME) guidance
Provide after-hours technical assistance response for Load Management Control system trouble calls and capacity emergencies
Provide operational guidance for the Energy Control Center for all aspects of the LMC system during system deployment and provide training for ECC System Operators
Develop and maintain software for automated standby generation billing
Analyze, design, develop, and test software and hardware applications for DR programs
Required Qualifications:
Valid Drivers License required
High School/GED
Associates degree: Student applicants must successfully complete and obtain their degree prior to their scheduled start date
In addition to required degree, two (2) years minimum of related work experience
Students must successfully complete and obtain their degree prior to their scheduled start date.
Desired Qualifications:
Recently completed a Duke Energy Internship or Co-Op
Experience with programming languages C#, C , JavaScript, and Angular
SQL experience including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and DB2
ASP.NET MVC proficiency
Demonstrated ability of understanding Demand Response and load control techniques
Working Conditions
Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility - Duke Energy Plaza.
