Areas of Responsibility

• Load and unload bundles from trucks using crane
• Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms and lifting accessories in order to prevent malfunctions and damage
• Move levers (with both hands), depress foot petals (with both feet) and turn dials to operate crane, or other moving equipment for lifting, moving and placing loads
• Lubricate crane parts in adherence with manufacturer and company recommendations
• Maintain contact with Production Supervisors and co-workers
• General housekeeping during down time to include shovelling, sweeping, and hosing to clean area
• Adhere to all mill environmental, health and safety guidelines, policies, and practice
• Performing other related duties as assigned

Skills & Ability

• Physical ability to perform assigned crane related tasks: prolonged sitting, walking, standing, and bending
• Physical ability to perform assigned tasks (lift, push and pull 50 pounds)
• Skilled in crane operations or comparable heavy machinery operations experience
• Complete understanding of log loading/handling equipment to include but not limited to the one-bite log loader, wheel loader, crane, chipper and on-site forklifts
• Working knowledge of the log yards layout and proper log sorting ability
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Understand oral and written communications, both general and technical.

• Provide clear instructions/directions.
• Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces
• Suitable agility and stamina to permit negotiation of stairs, elevated work platforms (at or above 50 feet), ladders and walking on uneven terrain
• Stay in seated position at approximate 30-degree angle for long periods of time
• Work in all types of weather conditions

Education & Qualification:

• Preferred 1 year of experience in crane operation in construction, manufacturing, or repair setting
• At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or similar environment operating heavy equipment
• At least 18 years of age
• High School Diploma or GED
