Driving Academy is Hiring an Assistant CDL Training Yard Manager Near Linden, NJ

POSITION SUMMARY

The CDL Assistant Training Yard Manager facilitates the continuous operation of CDL student training by overseeing the personnel, facilities, equipment, and students. They are further responsible for assisting the CDL Training Manager in carrying out and administering company policies and procedures, as well as accomplishing short and long term department objectives.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

  • Assists the Manager with employment actions, including discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • May hire and train new staff or assist management with the onboarding process.
  • Coordinates and oversees the day-to-day workflow of subordinate staff in the department to ensure department and customer needs are met.
  • As requested by the Manager, conducts or assists with performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Resolve customer service issues related to training yard activities < Consideration - Manages conflicts and resolves complaints about or within the department.
  • Maintain accountability of the state of the training vehicles, equipment, and facilities; including identifying symptoms of maintenance concerns, determining the operational status of vehicles and facilities
  • Facilitates routine inspection on vehicles, which may include checking oil, water, fuel, and air; reports maintenance malfunctions to the Manager.
  • Manages inventory, facilitating purchases as needed; negotiates related pricing contracts and verifies costs and receipts.
  • Monitors departmental performance, identifying and facilitating opportunities to increase productivity and efficiency.
  • Teaches students items that include but are not limited to the state's motor vehicle laws, pre-trip, inspection, advising parking maneuvers, etc.
  • Operates and supervises operation of CDL Vehicles according to applicable state, federal transportation laws and along scheduled routes (i.e. tractor trailers, busses, bobtail trucks, etc.)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

KEY COMPETENCIES

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to be successful in this role, but are not necessarily all inclusive.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to moderate large groups
  • ​​Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Extensive knowledge of motor vehicle laws, CDL vehicle operation and safety principles.
  • Excellent training skills with the ability to assign and delegate tasks.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, or related software
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid Commercial Drivers License Class A and clean driving record required
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Instructors License required; candidates who do not currently possess a valid MVC instructors License will be assisted in acquiring it upon employment.
  • At least two years of experience in training with one year of supervisory experience required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to climb in and out of trucks and buses
  • Prolonged ability to stand
  • Prolonged periods of riding in a vehicle
  • Physical ability to operate a vehicle
  • Ability to look beneath trucks and buses
  • Ability to see near and far details
  • Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds at a time
  • Perform work with OSHA required PPE; Including COVID19 PPE
