Public Safety Dispatcher Trainees (No Experience Required) No Experience is Required. You, Will, Be Trained. This position receives incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for law enforcement, fire, EMS and other emergency and non-emergency personnel and services in an accurate, timely and professional manner; and performs related work as required. The class works according to to set procedures under occasional supervision. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Answers the administrative telephone; provides information and assistance as requested and/or forwards calls to appropriate personnel; takes messages as necessary;
Performs computer-aided dispatching work, including receiving emergency and non-emergency calls for law enforcement, fire, EMS, rescue and HazMat response;
Handles call in a professional and timely manner and in compliance with all pertinent local, state and federal regulations;
Initiates call to persons at the request of officers; calls wrecker companies as directed;
Provides routine assistance and information to callers, such as taking messages, providing directions, routing calls, etc.;
Monitors weather radio and alert appropriate personnel of potential inclement conditions;
Receives and responds to public inquiries and requests for assistance;
Attends training sessions, workshops, meetings, etc., to maintain or enhance job knowledge and skills;
Works 12-hour shifts to include holidays, nights, and weekends;
Remains on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week, for emergency response;
Assists in maintaining Communications Center work area and equipment in clean and working condition;
Performs general clerical work as required, including preparing lists, logs and reports, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, etc.; and
