So, what will you be doing?The Process Safety Management Director’s primary responsibility is to guarantee safety for people utilizing various equipment, improved safety, higher yields, better production rates, and higher attainment in the organization. This position enhances our process safety management system through successful development and implementation of the Process Safety Management system. The Director will coach and lead operational teams in creating a robust PSM program and culture throughout Drax North America.
Who you are?Key Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for providing process safety support to operating plants, as well as ensuring that process engineering standards and procedures are met during the development, design, and construction phases of a project and improved upon as necessary.
  • Evaluate the risks associated with pellet processes and help to develop safe operating protocols.
  • Identify potential hazards associated with industrial operations with a focus on preventing catastrophic accidents and minimizing risks.
  • Participate in internal and external incident investigations for significant process safety related events, ensure correct categorization of actual and potential risks, and report back lessons learned in service of continuous improvement.
  • Engage Asset Owners and other stakeholders to collect Process Safety Information (design, operations, and other data) for Process Hazard Analysis.
  • Facilitate hazard identification and risk analysis process and contribute to process safety compliance audits investigations of major process safety incidents.
  • Provide process safety guidance and support for large and small projects.
  • Maintain the system for Management of Change (MOC) and track action items to ensure completion or action items.
  • Track recommendations to completion ensuring that best practices and good engineering judgment are applied to closure and mitigations.
  • Collaborate with teams to discover and implement long-term process improvement efforts.
  • Perform various audits of the process safety management system and execute risk mitigation corrective actions.
  • Develop and lead PSM policies, strategies, and programs to ensure compliance by understanding users’ needs, potential road blocks, and helping the organization prioritize necessary areas of focus.

  • Supporting all Pellet Operations across North America
  • 70% travel
  • Will be required to travel throughout North America
  • A flexible approach to working extended hours, as needed
Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:
  • Experienced implementing and maintaining Process Safety Management Systems across multiple sites.
  • Proven experience in performing, facilitating, and documenting incident investigation and root cause analyses using detailed, systematic methodologies.
  • Fluent in managing and evaluating the applicability of technical safety/risk studies in projects. It is also essential that they understand process hazards, failure mechanisms, and safeguards.
  • The proven capacity to take into account processes from multiple systems when designing solutions for organizational operations, and to also anticipate a range of human reactions to the changes they propose.
  • Excellent communication skills with all levels in the organization and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to drive culture change across multiple sites.
  • Minimum requirements of a bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • 5 to 10 years of related experience supporting Operations and/or Projects, such as plant or process engineering, project design, execution, engineering and/or technical service roles required.
