About the role

Purpose

The purpose of the GLT EHS Consultant is to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and continual improvement of operational and personnel safety, occupational health, and environmental performance.

Role Accountabilities

The GLT EHS Consultant reports directly to the Global Head of GLT Operations and works within the designated region in the Mining and Process Solutions business. This role will have close relationship with the Global Head of EHS&S.

Key Responsibilities

EHS Development and Implementation:

  • Set direction for the GLT business and involve diverse groups to lead, implement, and audit safety, health, and environmental efforts, including areas of goal setting, compliance strategies, and management systems/tools.
  • Work with GLT leadership and personnel to maintain high performance and high-level awareness for EHS and drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide EHS guidance and consultation to the business and its partners. 
  • Review and update procedures on a periodic basis.
  • Responsible for the development of safety improvement initiatives and the daily management of ongoing safety operations.

Reporting:

  • Provide insight, training, and information for the senior management team regarding the safety strategic objectives and regulatory compliance issues.
  • Provide timely EHS metrics and reports, both internally and externally.

Risk and Compliance:

  • Facilitate inspections and/or requests by regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure business compliance with applicable corporate standards, local procedures, federal and state regulations, and any operating permits.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify and control environmental and safety risks to reduce injury and costs.
  • Monitor and interpret changes or additions to federal laws and regulations and implement changes.

Relationship building:

  • Actively lead and/or participate in corporate EHS networks and any community outreach efforts.

Financial Management:

  • Manage the EHS budget and monitor expenses ensuring expenditure is within approved budgets and delegation of authority (DOA).

Required qualifications:

  • Either a bachelor’s degree, or higher, in fields of study related to Environmental, Health, Safety, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with at least 5-10 years of relevant EHS experience in a relevant industry
  • Registration as a Certified Safety Professional preferred.

Required skills and knowledge:

  • Ability to read and interpret complex regulations and to work with employees to ensure compliance.
  • A solid understanding of document management, root cause analysis, and the overall Plan-Do-Check-Act process.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable regulations relevant to the manufacturing or chemical industries and a working knowledge of EHS principles related to Process Safety, Environmental Management, Security, Transportation, Emergency Response, and/or Product Stewardship.

Required experience:

  • Relevant EHS experience
  • Experience in ISO and Australian/New Zealand Standards

Other requirements:

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, achieving results on time.
  • Influence and negotiate with others at various levels of the organization and at regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to set direction consistent with goals; develop plans; audit progress; focus attention toward achieving goals.
  • Anticipate problems and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Ability to lead change and motivate diverse groups/individuals while self-managing responsibilities and person objectives.
  • Strong leadership, communication, influencing, and interpersonal skills desired.
