Overview

The MS Dean is responsible for assisting and supporting the MS leaders with implementing the norms of conduct as they relate to the safety, behavior, and discipline of the students.

Upholding Systems and Compliance

• Creates, rolls out, and upholds, as a leading model, clear systems for arrival, lunch, recess and dismissal in collaboration with the MS Principal and the dean team
• Serves as a leader during transitions to help the school community travel safely throughout the hallways
• Documents and maintains organized databases and up to date student information on attendance, discipline, and records
• Meets with MS Principal to discuss school-wide issues, trends, and upcoming events

Fostering Positive Student Engagement

• Models and promotes positive discipline behavior
• Implements Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) and Restorative Practices with fidelity
• Ensures a high achievement culture
• Follows the guidelines presented in the Dr. Izquierdo Charter Schools Scholar Handbook
• Conducts restorative conversations between students who have experienced conflict
• Takes lead when applicable at student town halls and assemblies

Creating Strong Culture and Community

• Assists in the safety and well-being of the students
• Maintains and monitors safety and order by being accessible and visible in hallways, classrooms, during arrival/dismissal of students, lunch periods, after school programs, deans office, detention, etc.
• Works closely together with colleagues to ensure consistency and discipline across the school
• Communicates with families positively to help deter misbehavior and focus students on the right path

Supporting Instruction

• Leads advisory for a class of scholars
• Supports with grade-appropriate, application-oriented activities/ assemblies/ initiatives that bolster student engagement and school culture
• Supports in norming classroom management best-practices school-wide
• Conducts non-evaluative teacher coaching as it relates to classroom management
• Attends grade team meetings as needed, based on scholar behavioral trends and academic needs
• Analyzes school-wide data to design responsive student interventions
• Completes any other tasks or duties as assigned by the MS Principal and the Leadership Team

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree preferred
• Minimum of three years of dean experience in an urban school
• Classroom experience/ teaching experience
• Masters Degree/ NYS Teaching Certification preferred
• Bilingual/Spanish a plus
• Successful experience in communicating with parents and students

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no formalized supervisory responsibilities but will serve as a model and leader for the associate deans

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time 12-month position. The regular hours and workdays are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in addition to any special events to which all staff are expected to attend.

Salary Range

$75,000 - $95,000 annually (Based on Experience)

Minimum to no travel required
