Position Summary:

The Accelerated Programs Specialist is a critical member of the Office of Accelerated Programs within the Department of Instructional Equity and will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of high-quality accelerated programs in high schools across the district. This includes coursework for Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Dual Enrollment programs. The Accelerated Programs Specialist will support the expansion of college level opportunities for high school students by implementing projects that engage schools throughout the advanced coursework participation experience, from generating interest, to selecting the best-fit programs and courses, to completing enrollment and reporting processes. The Accelerated Programs Specialist will collaborate across schools and central office departments to collect, maintain, and analyze student participation and assessment performance for each program. Ideal candidates will have experience in managing dual enrollment and/or K-12/university partnerships, project management, outstanding relationship building skills, and an ability to manage multiple responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university

  • Previous coordination experience with Advanced Placement and Dual enrollment programming

  • Educational guidance counseling background or experience coordinating K-12/university partnerships highly preferred

Essential Functions:

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Accelerated Programs, the Accelerated Programs Specialist shall:

  • Manage essential administrative tasks and logistics for Accelerated Programs functions including implementing department systems and tools that optimize efficiency, accuracy and maximize impact.

  • Serve as an office liaison providing timely and accurate information, materials, and documents pertaining to Accelerated Programs activities and directives.

  • Support student recruitment and application to dual enrollment programs.

  • Assist with requesting and collecting dual enrollment and Advanced Placement participation data, credit attainment, and student performance data from stakeholders to accurately compile quickly.

  • Communicate with key internal and external stakeholders regularly in verbal and written form.

  • Assist with monitoring the Accelerated Programs budget to ensure good stewardship of grants and general funding.

  • Coordinate and facilitate student orientations.

  • Procure and set up materials for adult professional learning sessions.

  • Build effective relationships with all stakeholders to implement the Accelerated Programs and DPSCD strategic plans.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to antiracism, center racial equity, and inclusion, and bring practical solutions to issues of equity and inclusion in schools and on the team.

  • Fulfill all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Director of Accelerated Programs.

Security Clearance:

Internal Applicants

If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
