Salary: $67,690 - $88,539

In accordance with the Agreement between Organization of School Administrators and Supervisors (OSAS) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary:

The Real Estate Coordinator - Program Associate I plays a critical role in keeping records of all activity related to the real estate portfolio on behalf of the District. Solid organizational skills are necessary as is a background in providing excellent customer service. The Real Estate Coordinator will lead the department's direct communication with internal partners across the district, build and support relationships with various suppliers, government offices, and public safety departments via email, phone, and in-person communications ensuring all partners receive prompt, accurate, and relevant information to help them navigate information gathering both via direct communications and by continually evaluating and improving our Real Estate Department's communication tools (website, Hub, printed collateral, etc.).

The Real Estate Coordinator will also serve as lead for executing the Department's processes related to documenting inquiries, collecting metrics on lead generation, preparing property showings, confirming appointments, researching property deeds, and understanding the Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Ideal candidates will have outstanding attention to detail, strong organizational skills, familiarity with Microsoft programs and online databases.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university

The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of the following professional experience and competencies:

  • Three to five years' experience with a history of office management, customer relations, and/or senior administrative roles.

  • Outstanding customer service skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate concisely, warmly, and clearly.

  • Outstanding attention to detail.

  • Proficiency with technology to complete work, including Microsoft products: Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Teams, as well as ability in ERP (PeopleSoft or similar system), and survey design tools (Qualtrics, MS Forms).

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and experience implementing systems to manage office and responsibilities efficiently.

  • Experience executing multiple projects simultaneously within a data-driven environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive records, including details of valuable real estate transactions and the terms therein.

  • Able to take initiative and learn quickly.

  • Reliable transportation to conduct various site visits.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a key support contact for District personnel and community stakeholders by responding to inquiries promptly, completely, and accurately over the phone, online, or in person.

  • Demonstrate timely and outstanding customer service in written or verbal communications.

  • Manage the Real Estate Department phone line, including serving as the primary lead for answering and logging calls.

  • Research, learn, and understand the use and purpose for a Highest and Best Use Report in the arena of commercial real estate.

  • Create, manage, and update weekly activity logs specifically to chart blight management, property sales, legal actions, and customer concerns.

  • Provide updates for website, Hub articles, and business resources based on frequent inquiries from potential purchasers that arrive via inbound communication.

  • Coordinate with and provide information to other District teams that have direct engagement with all Operations Division components.

  • Generate and distribute regular reports on blight management, property inquiries (calls and emails) and information for sale processing.

  • Participate in the strategies surrounding the finances of real estate, mainly taxes, fines, fees, and collecting lease revenue.

  • Serve as the lead for document management systems.

  • Design and prepare universal note taking process for all meetings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Security Clearance:

Internal Applicants

If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
