Summary:

On the Rise Academy is a Michigan Department of Education-approved alternative teacher certification program that prepares participants to become exceptional teachers in Secondary Mathematics and Secondary Science who will uphold the mission, vision, and values of Detroit Public Schools Community District. Individuals admitted to the program will become On the Rise Academy "Continuing Teachers". The program commences with admissions coursework. Continuing Teachers are required to complete the Secondary Mathematics or Secondary Science coursework strand and pass the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) in Secondary Mathematics or Secondary Integrated Science before moving into a Secondary Mathematics or Secondary Science position. The 3-year program offers a rigorous training model that includes coursework, supervised field experience and multiple performance screens. Continuing Teachers who complete all program requirements, including passing performance screens, will be recommended for a standard teaching certificate with an endorsement in Secondary Mathematics or Secondary Integrated Science after their third year of effective teaching. The program is $6,000, though tuition will be forgiven for participants who remain teaching in DPSCD in their certification area for a minimum of 6 years.
