PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Outpatient dietitian/nutritionist promotes wellness by responding to the nutrition education needs of the community, in accordance with national standards. This includes community nutrition education programs, nutrition counseling, and the diabetes disease management program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Based on physician diagnosis, nutritional assessment, and patients' learning needs, plans nutritional care and counsels outpatients and families on nutritional requirements and methods of meal planning.
2. Presents nutrition education programs for the community in support of department/hospital goals and mission statement and in accordance with various community health initiatives.
3. Serves as nutritional consultant to the health care team, support groups, and other hospital services, (ie, Healthy Beginnings, Oncology Services, Cardiac Rehab, Visiting Nurse, etc)
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education: Mimimum of B.S. Degree in Nutrition or related field.
B. Experience: Two years in the field of clinical dietetics required or one year of similar outpatient experience.
C. Other Skills: Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively and courteously with patients, family, visitors and members of the health care team. Needs to work in a self directed manner. Ability to concentrate on very technical work with high level of accuracy.
D. Age Specific Competency- Requires the demonstrated knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of patients served. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.
