Downtown Women's Center is Hiring a Specialist - Employment Retention Near Los Angeles, CA

Summary  
The Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) seeks a full-time Specialist – Employment Retention with a proven history of high-quality employment services provision, to provide culturally responsive services to participants. The ideal candidate will support DWC’s general workforce development programming, both onsite and in the community, provide individual employment navigation services, conduct employer engagement, and lead retention services for employed participants. The ideal candidate plays a key role in helping participants achieve and maintain their educational and employment goals and supports them with job retention and career advancement. The ideal candidate establishes and maintains working relationships with employers, industry organizations, and public agencies to source job openings and secure employment and vocational training opportunities for clients. The ideal candidate evaluates an individual's background, skills, and interests and matches potential job openings or training programs, as well as coaches and prepares candidates for interviews and entry into the workforce. This position will provide individualized support to participants and work closely with all program teams to provide a continuum of support. This position reports directly to the Interim Supervisor - Workforce Development. This individual will be responsible for employer engagement and job development, working closely with department Employment Specialists to fill open job opportunities. 
Essential Functions  
  • Provide culturally responsive employment services. 
  • Provide in-house and field-based services to best accommodate individuals living throughout Los Angeles. 
  • Coordinate DWC’s workforce development programming through recruitment of participants, conducting orientations, program scheduling, and coordinating a continuum of support across the agency to assist with employment and education obtainment. 
  • Conduct 1-on-1 job retention and advancement activities with clients, including practice interviews, job applications, computer tutorials, cover letters, reference lists, and job search guidance. 
  • Conduct Retention Roundtable services to support individuals to retain employment. 
  • Support women in their goals related to professional development opportunities, vocational education programming. 
  • Support learning center, and volunteer and peer leader coordination. 
  • Facilitate Job Preparation classes and other seminars on an as-needed basis. 
  • Maintain up-to-date referrals resources for clients to facilitate employment advancement. 
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of activities, case management notes, and services provided to each client. 
  • Participate in individual and group supervision and participate in meetings and training. 
  • Conduct data collection, provide regular written reports, and assist with program assessments and ongoing program improvements. 
  • Build appropriate rapport with internal and external partners (case management, volunteers, and donors). 
  • Have a good general understanding of all programs offered and know the appropriate staff for referrals. 
  • Review job applications and employment orders to match applicants to employment opportunities. 
  • Provide field-based services and provide client transportation as needed to ensure women are linked to employment in the community. 
  • Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the organization.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. 
Work Environment 
This job operates in a professional office environment and in the community, including where clients reside. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 
Physical Demands 
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work  
This is a full-time non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are Mondays-Fridays 8:30am 5:00pm, with the flexibility to adjust schedule to work other dates and times as needed.
Travel  
Regular travel throughout Los Angeles County is required in this position.
Work Remotely: 
Option for hybrid work schedule but with expectation to work onsite full time as scheduled. 
Required Education and Experience  
  • High School or GED required. A bachelor’s degree is preferred. 
  • Experience as an Employment Specialist, Job Developer, Business service Representative. 
  • Lived experience a preferred. 
Required Knowledge/Skills/Position Qualifications 
  • Knowledge of the complex barriers surrounding women’s homelessness and unemployment 
  • Experience working with issues of homelessness, trauma, and mental health preferred 
  • Advanced computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and ability to build relationships with women, coworkers, and community partners from diverse backgrounds 
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, implement plans, and meet deadlines 
  • Active listening and problem-solving skills, a solution-oriented attitude, and good judgment 
  • Experience serving as a mentor or program counselor 
  • Knowledge of culturally responsible interventions 
  • Valid California driver's license, good driving record, and proof of active insurance.
  • Cultural humility. 
  • Must be a CA resident and live no more than 80 miles from DWC; must be available for in-person meetings at DWC. 
  • Must provide documentation of a negative TB test result within the last twelve months, on first day of hire. 
  • You will be required to be up to date on your vaccinations against COVID-19 and provide documentation. If you are fully vaccinated and not yet eligible to receive a booster dose, then you must receive the booster dose within 30 days of becoming eligible and eligibility begins 5 months after receiving final primary dose. If you are fully vaccinated and have received a booster dose, you are considered up to date with your vaccinations. Unvaccinated individuals must receive their 1st dose before their first day of hire. Partially vaccinated (for 2-dose series) individuals must receive their 2nd dose within 30 days of being hired. The second dose of a two-dose vaccine series is due 4 weeks after the primary dose.
Pay Range
$23.07/hourly
