Downtown Women's Center is Hiring a Coordinator - Interim Housing Services, Overnight Weekday Near Los Angeles, CA

Summary:
DWC’s mission is to end homelessness for women in greater Los Angeles through housing, wellness, employment, and advocacy. DWC has recently launched the Every Woman Housed Initiative to mobilize housing solutions for unaccompanied women and women with children residing without shelter in the Skid Row neighborhood of Los Angeles. The key components of this initiative are outreach and intake, short-term housing responses, and long-term housing solutions.
The role of the Interim Housing Services Coordinator is to assist with onsite service coordination between healthcare staff, meals distribution, and case management. This includes direct support to women residing onsite, ensuring their access to facilities and resources, and providing support and crisis intervention as needed.
Essential Functions
  1. Help coordinate and track daily Interim Housing operations, including serving as the point person for coordination of services onsite, health screenings, meal distribution, curfew compliance, and implementing program protocols
  2. Provide direct services including connecting participants to case management services, providing referrals, providing meals, hygiene products, clothing and other necessities
  3. Ensure a safe and welcoming environment: respond to requests, address complaints, intervene in and de-escalate situations, provide support to staff, problem-solve issues in a timely manner, provide crisis intervention when needed and follow guidelines to maintain structure and safety for participants
  4. Ensure that all safety protocols are being followed, including proper hygiene and sanitization, and use of personal protective equipment
  5. Distribute resources directly to participants as appropriate
  6. Assist with outreach to develop new resources as directed
  7. Assist with Interim Housing tracking and data entry as needed, including attendance logs, daily shift logs, and other documentation
  8. Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the organization

Competencies
  1. Knowledge of issues related to women’s poverty, homelessness, mental illness, trauma, substance abuse, health issues, and older adults preferred
  2. Excellent customer service and strong interpersonal skills; ability to engage a diverse group of participants, team-members and volunteers
  3. Ability to exercise and model good judgment, teamwork and professionalism, especially in crisis situations with the ability to utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques within DWC guidelines
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  5. Strong written and oral communication skills required
  6. Detail-oriented, highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks and priorities, and set and meet goals and deadlines
  7. Great crisis intervention skills and an ability to de-escalate escalated clients in a trauma informed manner
Supervisory Responsibility 
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
DWC’s Interim Housing Program is staffed seven days per week 24hrs/day to provide supportive services to homeless and low-income women residing in the program. DWC is seeking a highly personable, compassionate, and team-oriented person to provide direct service provision for our Interim Housing. As an Interim Housing team-member you will work to create a safe and welcoming environment that meets the immediate needs of Interim Housing participants. This position will be responsible for the organization and implementation of the Interim Housing services during open hours which may include but are not limited to: coordination of services and enrichment activities, crisis intervention, identifying program needs for participants, assistance with meal coordination/health checks. This position reports directly to the Interim Housing Program Supervisor.
Physical Demands
Candidate must be able to bend, stand on a step stool, walk stairs, and lift at least 25-45lbs
Carry and deliver meals
Ability to operate computer, phones, fax and printer
Move furniture to assist with set-up/take-down, including but not limited to tables, chairs, and cots
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a Full-Time position. Position schedule is Monday to Friday 11pm-7:30am.
Travel
Minimal traveling may be required for activities, meetings and/or trainings as directed

Pay Range: $21.86
Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Direct service experience with high risk/high need populations and/or history of employment in customer service required; Experience in a multi-service nonprofit is a plus
  • Oral and written fluency in both Spanish and English preferred
Additional Eligibility Qualifications 
  • Must be a California resident and live at least 75 miles from the office and must be available for in-person meetings at the DWC offices. 
  • Must provide documentation of a negative TB rest result within the last twelve months, on first day of hire.
  • Must provide documentation of a negative COVID-19 test result from the last seven days, on first day of hire. 
  • You will be required to have received at least the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination to start employment with DWC, and second dose must be received within 30 days from the first day of hire.

  • Must be a CA resident and live at least 75 miles from the office and must be available for in-person meetings at the DWC offices.
  • Must provide documentation of a negative PCR COVID-19 test result from the last seven days, on first day of hire.
  • Must provide documentation of a negative TB test result within the last twelve months, on first day of hire.
  • You will be required to be up to date on your COVID-19 vaccinations. If you are fully vaccinated and not yet eligible to receive a booster dose, then you must receive the booster does within 30 days of becoming eligible. If you are fully vaccinated and have received a booster dose, you are considered up to date with your vaccinations.
  • You will be required to receive the booster within 30 days of becoming eligible (5 months after the second dose for Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, or two months after the J&J/Janssen vaccine).
