Downtown Women's Center is Hiring a Remote Clinical Social Worker

Summary
DWC has recently launched the Every Woman Housed Initiative to mobilize housing solutions for unaccompanied women and women with children residing without shelter in the Skid Row neighborhood of Los Angeles. The key components of this initiative are outreach and intake, short-term housing responses, and long-term housing solutions.
DWC is seeking a full time Clinical Social Worker to provide comprehensive, trauma-informed care to unaccompanied women and women with children experiencing homelessness. This person will provide clinical case management services with a focus on linking women to housing and will engage women in an ongoing assessment of needs, goal-setting, resource linkage, skill-building, and mental health support. This position is a member of the Clinical Department, and will work in collaboration with other professionals, and report directly to the Outreach and Engagement Supervisor.
Essential Functions
  • Perform clinical case management activities for DWC’s Every Woman Housed Initiative.
  • Provide strengths-based case management support to assist women in obtaining stable housing
  • Provide field-based services including independent living skills, housing stabilization, benefits establishment, and referrals to community providers for substance abuse, vocational, health and mental health services
  • Collaborate with clients to develop individualized treatment plans that address short- and long-term goals
  • Provide trauma-informed client care using motivational interviewing, harm-reduction and de-escalation techniques as needed.
  • Provide crisis intervention, including suicide, homicide, and child abuse assessments and facilitate safety planning and follow-up interventions
  • Provide clinical support and consultation to staff working with unaccompanied women and women with children in crisis.
  • Attend weekly team meetings and regular one-on-one supervision.
  • Represent DWC at Skid Row care coordination meetings for unsheltered women.
  • Maintain professional relationships and communication with partner agencies.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal laws and regulations around confidentiality.
  • Provide client-centered services in a manner consistent with the DWC mission.
  • Maintain accurate and timely data collection, records, case management notes, and services provided to each client.
  • Provide regular, written reports to the Outreach & Engagement Supervisor and additional reports as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the organization.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday- Friday 8:30 AM- 5:00 PM; with flexibility to work during non-scheduled days and evenings when necessary.
Travel
Regular travel throughout Los Angeles County is required in this position. Must be able to walk the perimeter of the Skid Row neighborhood in order to conduct outreach to unsheltered women and meet with community providers.
Salary Range:
$71,000
Remote
Option for hybrid work schedule, but with expectation to be able to work onsite full time when needed.
Required Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field required
  • Experience working in social services; homeless services experience strongly preferred
  • Experience providing trauma-informed care preferred
  • Crisis intervention experience, and familiarity and comfort working with issues related to homelessness, substance abuse, mental health diagnosis, and history of trauma preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Oral and written fluency in English required; Spanish a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) required
Required Knowledge/Skills/Position Qualifications
  • Knowledge of local resources available to individuals experiencing homelessness preferred
  • Excellent active listening and crisis intervention skills with ability to exercise and model good judgment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; proven ability to communicate with diverse audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, including proficiency in balancing direct service responsibilities and record-keeping
  • Able to solve problems by being resourceful and using creativity
  • Must be a CA resident and live at least 75 miles from the office and must be available for in-person meetings at the DWC offices.
  • Must provide documentation of a negative COVID-19 test result from the last seven days, on first day of hire.
  • Must provide documentation of a negative TB test result within the last twelve months, on first day of hire.
  • You will be required to have received at least the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination to start employment with DWC, and second dose must be received within 30 days from the first day of hire.
