Downtown San Diego Partnership is Hiring a Safety Ambassador Near San Diego, CA

Position Title: Safety Ambassador

Reports to: Shift Supervisor, Operations Manager, & Director of Safety Services

FLSA: Full-time (40 hours/week), Non-exempt (hourly) plus benefits

Salary: $24.00 per hour

Schedule: Monday - Sunday (Set Schedules have the same 2 days off every week)

Shifts Available: Day: 5:30 AM - 2:00 PM; Swing: 1:30 PM - 10:00 PM; Graveyard: 10:30 PM- 7:00 AM

Location: Downtown San Diego area

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor & the Director of Safety Services, the Safety Ambassador will act as a “Liaison” for their assigned neighborhoods, becoming the eyes and ears for property owners, business owners, residents, and all of Downtown San Diego. Safety Ambassadors will actively patrol assigned neighborhoods on foot and by electric bike, responding to service requests via phone, in person, or through the Clean & Safe mobile app. Safety Ambassadors will work directly with emergency response personnel, service providers, and local law enforcement on a daily basis. Safety Ambassadors will also actively engage the community in a positive and productive manner, providing top quality customer service to all visitors and members of the Downtown San Diego community.

Essential Job Function & Duties

  • Provide customer service assistance to residents, business owners, tourists, and other patrons navigating the Downtown San Diego area
  • Actively patrol assigned neighborhoods regularly, establishing order and presence throughout the Downtown San Diego community
  • Check in daily with neighborhood residents, business owners, property owners, and private security
  • Compose, maintain, and present detailed reports of incidents and accidents, notating damages, theft, or any other irregular activity
  • Investigate and report suspicious activities related to panhandling, public intoxication, loitering, aggressive individuals, nuisance crimes, as well as any suspected criminal activity
  • Create “BOLO’s” reports (be on the lookout) based on the need of each property
  • Assist Maintenance Ambassadors with securing areas for maintenance duties during special projects, power washing request and block face cleanings.
  • Act as an escort and provide directional assistance for employees, residents, and visitors in need
  • Clean, maintain and operate issued equipment, including bikes, Segway’s, phones, and radios
  • Compile daily statistics using Eponic work logs, recording service request
  • Complete quarterly training and field training under the direction of the Shift Supervisor.
  • Perform quality assurance duties as directed
  • Real time reporting and submittal of incident reports, employee accidents, vehicle accidents and emergency responses.
  • Provide coordinated outreach services with Clean & Safe Outreach team and refer 211 informational packets to those in need.
  • Report any trip hazards, day burners, lights out, unattended property or other City of San Diego correspondence via get it done app or contacting Street Divisions Department via phone.

Administrative Tasks 10%

  • Adhere to all local, state, federal guidelines, and laws. (i.e. HIPAA, OSHA, FLSA, traffic laws)
  • Adhere to all of the DSDP policies and procedures
  • Answer all calls and radios communication, in a polite and professional manner
  • Use company telephone for data collection (Eponic) and timecard features (Paylocity)

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 years’ experience in Security field, Guard Card certified
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License
  • Valid CA Guard Card; current CPR/First Aid certification required
  • Ability to work varied hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Outstanding customer service skills, in person and electronically (radio/ phone)
  • Hospitality experience a plus
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English. Bilingual or Multilingual a plus
  • Knowledge of legal guidelines for area security and public safety

The Clean & Safe Operations is committed to providing great customer service along with providing a cleaner and safer downtown to our stakeholders and residents.

In all, these programs provide an annual contractual budget of approximately $13 million annually.
