DESCRIPTION: This position is seasonal from April 15th - October 12th 2024
Under immediate to general supervision, performs routine grounds maintenance duties including trash removal, watering, mowing, and trimming grass; seeding; fertilizing; applying pesticides; weeding flower beds; trimming trees and shrubs; and removing snow and ice from sidewalks and parking lots following established methods and procedures; may perform routine building and equipment maintenance and manual labor tasks. Incumbents work individually, as a member of a work crew, or while assisting supervisory staff or skilled maintenance technicians; perform related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (A position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned.)
Mows, waters, fertilizes, aerates and weeds lawns, grounds, and surrounding areas.
Rakes leaves, grass and other debris from lawns, grounds and surrounding areas.
Fertilizes lawns, trees, shrubs and flowers using proper application methods when applying chemicals and fertilizers.
Plants, cultivates, irrigates, trims and sprays; trim hedges; weeds flower beds.
Removes garbage, graffiti and hazardous tree limbs.
Installs and maintains underground sprinkling systems including repairing broken sprinkler lines and replacing sprinkler heads, risers and valves.
Removes ice, snow and debris from sidewalks, streets and grounds.
Loads, unloads and moves furniture, equipment, materials and supplies.
Operates machinery, equipment and tools in the performance of duties, maintains all equipment, tools and machinery in working order.
Performs routine building maintenance in the painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical trades; performs minor repairs and adjustments on a variety of machines and equipment.
Assists skilled maintenance technicians in performing a variety of maintenance, repair and construction activities.
Prepares reports and keeps records of time worked, materials used and equipment maintenance.
Must drive assigned vehicles in a safe, courteous and legal fashion. All work will be done in an efficient manner to keep truck mileage to a minimum. The vehicle is not to be operated outside our boundaries without the Maintenance Director’s consent. The vehicle will be safety checked and fluids monitored daily.
Must follow all safety policies and requirements as outlined in the DLA Employee Safety Manual.
Other duties as assigned.
