Downtown Brattleboro Alliance is Hiring an Economic Development Coordinator Near Brattleboro, VT

POSITION SUMMARY: The Coordinator works closely with businesses, municipal departments, economic development organizations, and the community to recruit and facilitate the process for new commercial growth; supports business retention/expansion efforts in Brattleboro’s various commercial districts; supports planning efforts related to community and economic development; informs economic development related policy; and provides additional economic development services for the benefit of the Town of Brattleboro. Additionally, the position is responsible for developing and managing business support initiatives to ensure the recovery and resiliency of Brattleboro’s small business community.

SUPERVISION: Reports to Brattleboro Thrives, a partnership between the Downtown Brattleboro Alliance and the Brattleboro Area Chamber of Commerce, with the responsibility of supporting economic development for the town of Brattleboro.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Pursue funding to support new or ongoing initiatives.
  • Assist with the creation of tax incentives to encourage development and business attraction.
  • Create and administer business support programs such as the storefronts façade improvement program, commercial property open house, and small business counseling
  • Maintain an available commercial property database; provide referrals to businesses interested in moving to or relocating within Brattleboro.
  • Maintain awareness of local, state and federal policies that impact businesses
  • Provide information about economic development incentives, such as tax credits, to eligible businesses and property owners, and as appropriate, assist with applications
  • Collaborate with and act as liaison to local and regional economic development partners
  • Maintain and update relevant organizational and community business metrics, including business listings, contact information, and employment numbers
  • Spearhead applications for economic development related grants for the town, businesses, or other local organizations
  • Prepare and present annual reports to the Town Selectboard
  • Create and maintain relevant economic development and “Doing Business in Brattleboro” resources
  • Participate in business/community marketing conversations when appropriate
  • As needed, attend and provide input at relevant municipal meetings (Selectboard, Planning Commission, etc.)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, public policy, finance, economics, urban planning, or a related field; and five (5) years of experience involving the management of people, programs, or finances in a public or private organization; or a combination of substantially equivalent education and experience
  • Knowledge of economic development and small business capacity building strategies
  • Ability to interpret economic measurement and analysis
  • Ability to work well within a team
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and communicate effectively with diverse constituencies, including business owners, town staff, elected officials, and community members, as well as other organizations, economic development practitioners and developers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
  • Self-motivation and ability to work toward objectives with minimal supervision.

DETAILS

Salary range is $35- $40 dollars/hour based on skills and experience; Flexible schedule. This is a two-year funded position with potential to renew.

Location - Brattleboro, Vermont.
