Available positions may include full-time permanent contracts and long-term substitute contracts.

    Job Summary: To develop in each pupil an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each pupil to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of pupils in physical achievement; to develop strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each pupil’s ability and the standards set forth by the school district.

    • Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college or university and hold a proper Pennsylvania certification for the position
      • Bachelor’s degree
      • Valid PA certification specific to content area: Health and Physical Education PK-12
    • Demonstrates knowledge in the area of assignment
    • Possesses a positive attitude toward the teaching profession, service to the district, and importance and purpose of the education program
    • Proficiency in use of current technology for individual or group demonstration or communication
    • Must be able to flex and vary hours to accommodate needs of students, parents, and other teachers
    • Possesses effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with teachers, administrators, parents, students, and outside organizations
    • Exhibits excellent classroom management skills
    • Demonstrates effective communication skills to provide accurate information to others and to obtain, give, and follow directions
    • Demonstrates ability to provide good judgment, planning, and human relations skills, as well as be required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility
    • To follow the standard of member conduct as stated in the PA Code of Professional Practice and Conduct for Educators

    Duties & Responsibilities: (Abbreviated - Please review the attached Job Description for more details on this specific opportunity)
    • Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities
    • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
    • Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program
    • Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge’s, and strategies of formal sports, games rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement
    • Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible
    • May teach Physical Education classes for handicapped pupils, interscholastic athletics, or drill team
    • Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the over-all safety of pupils
    • Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property
    • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas
    • Evaluates each pupil’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports

    Full salary matrix is available in the appendix of the following collective bargaining agreement
    • Placement upon salary scale is dependent upon education and years of experience. All long-term substitutes are placed on step 1.

    Schedule:
    7.5 hours per day based upon district-approved calendar
    Up to 191 days per year, plus up to 3 days of orientation for professional employees during first year of employment
