This is an OPEN recruitment to establish an eligibility list, fill vacancies and hire substitutes. Substitutes work on an as-needed basis to fill in for absent employees. The eligibility list will be used to fill permanent vacancies which may occur during the life of the eligibility list.Positions in this classification are full-time 40 hours per week, 11 months per year.The recruitment process will consist of a supplemental evaluation questionnaire and an oral technical interview, which is tentatively scheduled during the weeks of June 17-24, 2024. Designs and implements strength training and conditioning programs in-season, off-season, and pre-season for all school-sanctioned male and female athletic programs. E

Assists with sports medicine or athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes. E

Develops training plans, supervises training sessions, evaluates athletes, maintains athlete records, and teaches strength and conditioning classes as needed. E

Develops and implements strength and conditioning policies and procedures according to regulations and District guidelines. E

Maintains the strength and conditioning facility and establishes policies, plans, and procedures for safe and professional operation of the facility. E

Develops systems for tracking athlete attendance and athlete progress in conjunction with sport coaches. E

Conducts an annual needs analysis for each sports team in conjunction with sports coaches and athletic training staff. E

Prepares budget recommendations that include routine maintenance, purchase of new equipment, and staffing needs. E

Maintains necessary trainer's supplies and equipment inventory. E

Operates a variety of athletic, therapeutic, and exercise gear and equipment; assures equipment is maintained in a safe and serviceable condition; cleans equipment and arranges for repairs as needed. E

Reinforces expectations for athlete conduct that mirror the school’s expectations for curricular and extracurricular activities, as stated in the school’s Student Code of Conduct. E

Advises athletes on personal hygiene, nutritional habits, and other health-related issues. E

Lead and direct students and/or volunteer assistants. E

May recommend professional development activities as needed.

Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Methods, practices, and procedures used in strength and conditioning activities, including conditioning, injury prevention, injury

assessment, and rehabilitation.

Sport-specific training methods and techniques in various sports.

Methods and approaches to planning programs and services according to identified needs and requirements of the assigned programs.

Training skills and techniques of strength training.

Training, group facilitation, and consultation.

First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillation (AED) training.

Safety and protective equipment used in sports.

Disinfectant technique and universal hygiene precautions.

Principles of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and nutrition.

Safety procedures and equipment related to athletic programs.

Methods for developing and maintaining physical fitness.

General principles of adolescent behavior and development.

Strong motivational skills.

Applicable sections of the California Education Code and other applicable laws.

Current National Federation of State High School Associations standards.

Operations of applicable computer hardware and software and other relevant technologies.

ABILITY TO:

Plan and coordinate various strength and conditioning programs.

Provide athletic strength and conditioning training services to student-athletes.

Develop and implement strength training and conditioning plans.

Work collaboratively with school administration, coaches, and athletic staff.

Maintain records and databases and accurate recordkeeping.

Conducts needs analysis using best practices and methods.

Communicate clearly and effectively in various situations with athletes, parents, coaches, and others in writing and orally.

Communicate effectively to motivate and inspire athletes.

Work collaboratively with the Athletic Director and coaches in providing technical services and information for the evaluation and

management of student-athletes.

Work effectively in a team-oriented environment, with a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.

Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and implement recommendations supporting goals.

Understand and utilize various modalities used in athletic strength and conditioning.

Organize work to meet schedules and due dates.

Complete work in a timely manner.

Prepare and maintain accurate and concise evaluations and records, files, and reports.

Interpret, apply, and explain applicable laws, codes, rules, and regulations.

Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information.

Work and engage diverse groups and empathetically respond to sensitive situations.

Work independently with general supervision.

Exercise sound judgment, flexibility, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with officials, public and private organizations, students, employees, and

coworkers.

Understand and be sensitive to and respect the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds,

disabilities, and sexual orientations of students, administrators and staff.

High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in strength and conditioning programming for adolescent populations. An Associate's degree or higher in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or a closely related field can be supplemented for the experience requirement.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California driver's license. Must be, and remain, insurable under the District’s vehicle driver’s insurance policy at the standard rate.

Valid First Aid and CPR certificates issued by an authorized agency, as well as meeting the requirements to keep certificates current.

Obtain certification from a recognized training and certification program such as the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA), International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) or Equivalent within six (6) months of employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

ENVIRONMENT:

Employees in this classification work in outside and inside environments such as athletic training rooms, campus, and athletic event environments; may encounter extreme weather, uneven surfaces or elevations, and extreme noise levels; subject to driving a vehicle to a variety of locations to conduct work during day and evening hours and variable hours. Incumbents are required to work a flexible schedule.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Employees in this classification bend at the waist, do heavy lifting; stand and walk for extended periods of time with occasional running; stoop, kneel, squat, sit, and have hand-eye coordination, use dexterity of hands and fingers, grasp, hold, see to observe type and extent of injury; and hear and speak to exchange information. The employee frequently pushes, pulls, and reaches overhead, independently lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
