Dover Behavioral Health System is Hiring a Peer Support Specialist - Full time Near Dover, DE

Responsibilities:
Dover Behavioral Health System is a 104-bed, acute care psychiatric hospital located in the beautiful Dover, Delaware area. Dover Behavioral Health System features individual units for adolescents and adults and offers inpatient acute care, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs. On average, over 10,000 patients receive care from our compassionate health care team each year at Dover Behavioral Health System. We are seeking qualified candidates for our Peer Support Specialist role to provide peer level support to dual-diagnosis and substance abuse patients including helping and sustaining recovery.
Responsibilities will include:
  • Provide peer level coaching and support to patients by engaging them with community programs and services, particularly substance abuse and dual-diagnosis patients
  • Develop supportive relationships that instills hope for recovery and with a focus on the patient’s treatment goals
  • Provide a welcome and orientation to newly admitted patients
  • Provide engaging education to patients during their stay including at time of admission, during treatment and aftercare, including facilitating recovery-based peer support groups
  • Ensure patients are following through with after care appointments, including transporting individuals at time of discharge and maintaining communication with after care providers
  • Working with the Social Services Department to find acceptable after care services and community based support for patients
  • Identify, document, and report any and all instances of adult or child abuse and neglect to the appropriate parties including a member of management, the police, and state agencies
Qualifications:
Minimum:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Peer Certification Required
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record
  • 6 months of working in a behavioral health setting
Preferred:
  • Previous experience as a Peer Support Specialist or Coach
