Overview

We are currently searching for a Family Nurse Practitioner to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center. This opportunity is a part-time position with MSC, and it is on-site in Bethesda, MD.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Function as a certified nurse practitioner for a specified pediatric patient population participating in biomedical research studies.
• Perform comprehensive patient management services including: admitting, transferring and discharging patients; ordering and interpreting appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies; ordering appropriate medications and treatments; referring patients for consultation when indicated; meticulous documentation practices; presenting patients during rounds and care conferences.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with patients, guardians, nurses, physicians and Principal Investigators (PIs) and other clinical staff in a professional and timely manner to ensure continuity of care.
• Effectively triage patient inquiries regarding clinical test results, medications and treatment.
• Provide patient education and counseling to patients and guardians regarding disease-specific care.
• Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills and data management.
• Serve as a role model for professional practice providing care to pediatric patients and their families in a complex setting.

Requirements

Required qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Nursing with current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of Maryland, or, if licensed in another state, documentation that a Maryland license is pending.
• Maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from a nationally recognized certifying body. The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.
• Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program from an accredited college.
• Minimum of two (2) years of Nurse Practitioner experience in a clinical setting including pediatric patient population.
• Current certification in BLS required.
• Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
• Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
• Tour of duty can be 8hr shifts during weekdays and 6hr shifts during weekends
• Ensure compliance with all hospital policies and requirements established by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare organizations.
