    Douglas ESD is accepting applications for a Youth Development Specialist. 230 days per year, 5 days per week, 8 hours per day.

    Starting Salary: $23.99 – $30.92 (depending on relevant verifiable experience)
    JOB SUMMARY: The Youth Development Specialist will work with Douglas ESD Youth Development staff to assist in identifying and serving dis-engaged/under-engaged youth who need to complete their high school education or the equivalent and explore through direct experiences future career opportunities that are aligned with careers in education and education counseling. A key role of this position is to support the reengaged youth and assist in developing personalized plans for their future careers and education.

    • Support the Youth Development Program with a focus on Future Ready goals and outcomes.
    • Collaborate with the Youth Development team to help develop strategies and programming to elevate educational careers for referred and engaged youth.
    • Establish ongoing, caring, supportive, trusting relationships with identified re-engaged youth and provide guidance for high school education completion or its equivalent. Provide guidance on opportunities to pursue career options and post-high school education plans focused on the educational career path.
    • Collaborate with internal programs and external partners to help build connections with local businesses and industry and identify work-based learning opportunities aligned with youth interests and community needs.
    • Document student progress and maintain consistent communication with students, families, educators, and partners engaged in the student’s progress.
    • Assist in identifying educational needs of re-engaged youth and coordinate with community partners to ensure appropriate placement for high school diploma or GED completion.
    • Assist in identifying any physical/mental health and personal needs of re-engaged youth and facilitate the referral to relevant services.
    • Utilize and enhance established mentoring standards and documents for re-engaged youth, including high school completion and transition planning i.e., post-high school career, training, and education planning.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Experience working with secondary transition-age students and an understanding or experience working with adult service agencies or providers.
    • Experience working in education as an educator, instructional assistant, or other role supporting students in the school environment.
