    Position Location: All Youth Corps program staff will be required to report daily to the Phoenix School campus (3131 N.E. Diamond Lake Boulevard Roseburg, Oregon 97470), this twelve-acre campus is located on the urban growth boundary of Roseburg, a city (population 21,000) located along Interstate 5, ninety minutes equidistance to the Oregon Coast to the west and the Oregon’s high Cascades to the east. Project sites vary throughout the Umpqua Basin on various public lands.
    Position Summary: This Oregon Youth Corps (OYC) affiliated position is primarily field-based and applicants must have a strong interest in leading youth, natural resource management, and stewardship of public land.
    This position is primarily outdoors, and applicants must have a desire to work among a small team. Projects include but are not limited planting, tending, and harvesting produce from beds in our learning garden and greenhouse on campus (i.e., sowing seeds, washing fruit and vegetables, mixing soil and compost, watering, and weeding raised beds). Secondary activities include but are not exclusive to career exploration, teambuilding, and science-based learning activities, and field trips to local community farms.
    Leadership of youth and providing quality assurance to project partners will be the primary responsibilities. Secondary goals include but are not exclusive to assisting with career exploration activities, attending Oregon Youth Corps trainings, safety assessment, gear and tool upkeep, and leading teambuilding activities to facilitate positive youth development.
    Position Requirements:
    • Ability to work within a school, with youth, and as a team member
    • Ability to work independently at times, show initiative, and communicate
    • Ability to explain procedures in a simple and effective manner
    • Perform in a professional manner while working with partnering organizations
    • Minimum of 21 years of age to meet driving insurance requirements
    • A valid driver's license, clean driving record and ability to provide documentation
    • U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident
    • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
    • Regular and reliable attendance
    • Possesses or willing to earn CPR/First Aid Card
    • Ability to successfully pass a drug test
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Possess a two-year or four-year degree from an accredited college or university
    • Experience in working as a member or leader of a crew or a military unit
    • Strong familiarity with small motors and power-tool equipment
    • Experience working in an educational setting
    • Experience working with underserved youth
    Physical/Intellectual Demands
    • May require bending, color identification, crawling, gripping with hands and fingers, hearing alarms and voice conversation, keyboarding, kneeling, occasionally lifting up to 60 pounds, operating passenger vehicles, pulling, pushing, reaching, running, shoveling/digging, sitting, standing, standing long periods, walking, walking on rough terrain; exposure to dampness, bee stings, chemicals, dust or pollen, epoxy chemicals, fumes, intense light, noxious odors, outside temperature extremes, poison oak, smoke, sun, noisy areas; wearing ear plugs/muffs, hard hats, plastic gloves, rubber boots, and safety glasses; working at heights, confined or crowded or remote areas, ladders, electricity; working shifts; working with rotating machinery and solvents, grease, oils, inks. A reasonable amount of driving is required for this position.
    Benefits Include:
    • $18.55 to $ 27.17 per hour compensation rate (DOE)
