Douglas ESD is accepting applications for an Autism Teacher. This position works 190 days, 5 days per week, 8 hours per day.

STARTING SALARY: $46,556 – $80,229 (depending on relevant verifiable experience and degree)
Bachelor’s degree scale range: $46,556 – $78,271
Master’s degree scale range: $47,716 - $80,229
JOB SUMMARY: To provide educational programs to meet the individual needs of children with disabilities and/or special needs who are enrolled in a self-contained classroom; working collaboratively in a behavioral school setting with mental health professionals to provide a cohesive program for students who are unable to access the educational program in a less restrictive environment due to their behavioral and emotional needs.
DUTIES: This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job.

• Create, provide, and teach the use of visual supports. For example: schedules, social narratives, positive reinforcement systems, cue cards, communication systems, etc.
• When students are transitioning back to district programs provide resources and support to staff relating to all core areas of academics including social skills groups and/or curriculum for students, taking into consideration social/communication expectations across age and developmental levels.
• Implement a behavior management program, when necessary, to assist student in behavior management; providing education regarding appropriate interpersonal actions.
• Provide assistance in writing and monitoring behavior plans, safety plans, and bus plans.
• Participate in the eligibility IFSP/IEP process: attend evaluation planning meetings, conduct file reviews, provide observations, assessments, and written summaries for eligibility meetings attend IFSP/IEP meetings for students, assist in writing IFSP/IEP goals.
• Work closely with families to provide them with training that reinforces and generalizes the skills being worked on in school.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor or Master’s degree in the area of Special Education
• Ability to possess or obtain an Oregon TSPC license.
• Ability to effectively handle working in an environment serving clients who are struggling with severe emotional and/or mental health related difficulties.
