Incumbent works under the direction of the Health Center Administrator or designee, operating multi-passenger vehicles transporting residents and employees to area medical facilities.
Transport residents and clients, assisting in and out of vehicle and operating lifts and assistive devices.
Assist nursing and/or security personnel during transportation and accompany residents.
Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
Transport and deliver prescription medications, medical supplies and miscellaneous items to designated locations ensuring timely and secure delivery.
Transport employees to non-emergency services (e.g. medical treatment, drug screening).
Report any traffic incidents to management.
Perform essential safety and maintenance checks, clean vehicle, and report maintenance or repair needs.
Refuel vehicles, transport vehicles for scheduled maintenance checks and repairs.
Maintain transportation activities and mileage records.
Perform Information Desk functions (e.g. answering questions, greeting and helping visitors, providing information).
Render immediate first aid and/or cardio-pulmonary measures.
Safely operate a motor vehicle when required to travel on County business.
Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned and directed.
High school diploma or equivalent required.*
One (1) year driving experience required.
Basic life support/cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS/CPR) certification within six (6) months of hire and maintained throughout employment required.
Valid driver's license upon hire and maintained throughout employment required.
Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check, physical assessment and conditional offer drug screen required.
*Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Work is generally performed outdoors in all seasons while driving and transporting individuals and involves exposure to adverse weather conditions and traffic hazards. Work is also performed indoors in a Health Center setting. Hours of work are generally standard day-shift hours; but may vary (e.g. nights, weekends, overtime/extra hours, holidays, emergency call-in). Noise level is usually moderate. Work may be stressful when dealing with multiple/changing priorities, time constraints, limited resources and irate/uncooperative individuals.
Work requires physical activity, including extended periods of sitting, standing, frequent walking, reaching, carrying, and occasional climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling. Work also requires the strength and mobility to push, load and unload passengers and the ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate vehicles, passenger lifts, and assist residents.
