Douglas County, NE is Hiring a Fleet Maintenance Parts Clerk Near Omaha, NE

The Position

Incumbent works under the direction of the Purchasing Agent or designee, procuring, stocking, maintaining and distributing inventory necessary to maintain and repair Douglas County equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in the equipment parts purchasing program for fleet maintenance.
  • Purchase inventory stock (e.g. contact vendors, conduct inquiries, request bids, obtain quotes, secure lowest bid, place orders).
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies and the public.
  • Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
  • Preserve confidentiality of sensitive information (e.g. law enforcement vehicle equipment lists, and other information and files.
  • Receive, count and inspect stock (e.g. parts, tools, equipment) ensuring proper quantity and quality.
  • Maintain and update inventory and related records (e.g. receipts, letters, invoices, packing slips, hazardous materials list). Comprehend and utilize parts catalog.
  • Respond to calls/inquiries and greet and assist individuals.
  • Coordinate stock procurement and disbursement with Shop Foreman, and issue inventory to Equipment Mechanics.
  • Schedule and complete procurement trips.
  • Verify and apply mechanic labor hours to applicable vehicle/equipment and organization.
  • Maintain equipment/parts room in clean and orderly manner.
  • Operate bead blaster, test alternators and construct, assemble and/or repair hydraulic hoses.
  • Transport vehicles for cleaning and repair.
  • Participate with inventory audits (e.g. interim, perpetual, year-end, internal) answering internal auditor questions.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle when required to travel on County business.
  • Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and directed.

Education and Work Experience and Other Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.*
  • One (1) year of warehouse or automotive parts/inventory experience required.*
  • Valid driver's license upon hire and maintained throughout employment required.
  • Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check, physical assessment and conditional offer drug screen required.
    • Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis.

  • Work is generally performed in a parts room and maintenance garage, and frequently outdoors with exposure to the elements. Noise level is moderate to loud. Work hours are typically standard day-shift hours; however, schedule may vary (e.g. days, shifts, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime/extra hours, emergency call-in). Work involves potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, fumes, dust and mechanical hazards. Work may be stressful when dealing with time constraints, multiple/changing priorities, limited resources and uncooperative/irate individuals.
  • Work requires some physical activity, including extended periods of standing, walking, frequent sitting, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping and climbing. Work requires the ability to frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Work may require the wearing of personal protective equipment.
  • Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing, and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
