Join Our Team as a Litigation Associate/Attorney

Although full time physically at the Firm is preferred, a remote Associate position is available for the right candidate.

Doug Newborn Law Firm, P.L.L.C., is a client-focused, family-focused law firm assisting clients through difficult situations. Our primary areas of practice include probate, estate planning, and guardianship and conservatorship. We understand that in this area of practice it can be an incredibly stressful time for our clients, and we make ourselves available to them. We do not tolerate drama between our staff, so we have a team that works well together. We are a family-friendly law firm that understands that 40-hour billable weeks are not conducive to one’s mental/emotional well-being. We are searching for a litigation associate to add to our growing team.

**About You:**

  • You have an Arizona bar license and experience in Title 14 litigation (probate/trusts and guardianship/conservatorship) or are willing to learn Title 14 litigation.
  • You are searching for an opportunity for trial work and look forward to working with a group of litigation attorneys to win, every time, for your client.
  • You take initiative and like to figure things out yourself but won’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it.
  • You are, or are willing to become, familiar with the ins and outs of basic Wills/Trusts, and can explain them to clients.
  • You have excellent attention to detail and superb verbal and written communication skills.
  • You understand how important it is to keep your clients updated on their case, and you keep them updated on their case.
  • You like to use the latest in legal technology.
  • You are searching for a career opportunity where you can settle in for the long term.
  • You have the ability to calm a client’s fears and concerns.
  • You have experience handling emergency legal situations and you can think on your feet to seek a quick resolution to a client’s legal emergency.
  • You have experience getting short notice on litigation deadlines and can reprioritize your task list accordingly.

**Responsibilities:**

  • Drafting, reviewing, and responding to motions/pleadings.
  • Appearing at initial and contested hearings.
  • Conducting discovery/disclosure.
  • Communicating with clients.
  • Taking a case and working it from start to finish (CLE) courses.

**Experience & Qualifications:**

  • Licensed to practice in Arizona (required).
  • Title 14 litigation experience in (or are willing to learn Title 14 so that you can do the following):
  • (1) Challenging and/or defending a Will and/or Trust (whether successfully or not);
  • (2) Prosecuting and/or defending an adult exploitation case (whether successfully or not);
  • (3) Prosecuting and/or defending a petition under ARS 14-3709.
  • Experience in estate planning a plus.
  • Experience in probate a plus.
  • Experience in guardianship and conservatorship a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Tech savvy.

**Benefits & Perks:**

  • Starting competitive salary commensurate with experience: $110,000 per year.
  • Bonus potential at end of year.

**Signing Bonus:** $10,000 (paid at the end of 30 ($2,500), 60 ($2,500), and 90 ($5,000) days)
