Data Scientist Role - Remote

Rancho BioSciences is seeking to fill a Data Scientist for Life Sciences position. An ideal candidate is a PhD scientist trained in the Life Sciences who acquired, through either formal training or experience, scripting and data science skills. An ideal candidate for this position will have a strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, superior communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

In this role you will:

• Interacts with an established group of data scientists, providing coding support for a variety of clinical and biomarker data integration projects
• Builds and improves data wrangling and database deployment pipelines in R/Posit
• Leverages data science tools and techniques in wrangling and analyzing large-scale biomarker data; develop custom scripts, functions, and data models to support downstream data users
• Documents and communicates workflow design and implementation via version control systems (e.g. GitHub/GitLab)
• Contributes with the team on technical decisions
• Collaborates with client scientists to deploy automatable and easy-to-maintain solutions including templates, vignettes or package development solutions
• Spearhead complex troubleshooting efforts in the biomarker integration space
• Works directly with client to provide process documentation and presentations that are clearly articulated, engaging, and educational

Desired Experience:

• 1-2 years of Data Science, Data Engineering, Bioinformatics, or equivalent experience
• A proven track record of collaborative and independent contributions to genomic, biomarker, and clinical data projects
• A working knowledge of modern data wrangling tools and best practice methods
• Hands on experience in next generation sequencing technologies, workflows, visualization and analysis highly desirable
• Experience coding in R/Posit
• Experience with version control systems (GitHub/GitLab)
• Experience with Snakemake or comparable workflow management system highly desirable
• Thorough understanding of data science trends, techniques, and best practices
• Understanding of data standards, semantics, terminologies, ontologies, and modern data governance techniques. Familiarity with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data guiding principles is a plus
• Deep understanding of data wrangling principles and applications
• Experience working independently to apply solutions and reporting back on activities to relevant client teams using written reports or presentations

Education Requirements:

• PhD in Computational Biology, Biology, Chemistry or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
