Water Distribution Operations Technician 1&2

Doney Park Water distributes water to over 9,000 residents of the Doney Park, Timberline, Fernwood, and Winona area. Our service area covers forty-four square miles. We are currently recruiting an exceptional and motivated Operations Technician to work full-time. Our office is located at 5290 E. Northgate Loop Flagstaff, Arizona.

Summary Description

Operations Tech 1 is an entry level position requiring a grade 1 Water Distribution Certification from ADEQ. Hiring Range: $19.57-$26.52/hr.

Operations Tech 2 is a senior level position requiring a grade 2 Water Distribution Certification from ADEQ and the ability to obtain a grade 3 within 12-months of hire, and 3 years of experience in distribution operations or closely related field. Hiring Range: $26.01-$37.04/hr.

Both positions perform semi and skilled activities associated with the operation, maintenance, and repair of a water distribution system, and other related work as required including on-call shifts. Regular work schedule is Tuesday-Friday, 7am-5pm (4-10hr week). Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Operations Supervisor.

List of Essential Functions (May be required to perform additional duties assigned by Supervisor)

  • Operate and maintain water distribution system including servicing of pumps, motors, valves, control valves, and equipment.
  • Repair and maintain water distribution lines, meters, valves, fire hydrants and related infrastructure.
  • Operate and maintain vehicles, machinery, equipment, tools, and facilities.
  • Perform daily facility inspections by visually checking distribution system equipment for proper operation.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repair of equipment and infrastructure.
  • Maintain records, perform data entry, and provide detailed reporting.
  • Collect and deliver water samples to laboratory.
  • Perform utility marking.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental requirements, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Perform troubleshooting to correct the cause of any operational abnormality or problem.

New hires will be placed in the on-call schedule at the Operation Supervisors discretion. Operators are on-call for 1 week per rotation, required to carry a company provided cell phone, and be available at all times for emergencies during on-call shift.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Knowledge of safety procedures and practices related to excavation, confined space entry, trenching, and other water distribution operations.

· Ability to obtain/maintain certifications as required by Federal and State laws.

· Ability to monitor, read and interpret various devices, charts, gauges, and correctly react to those interpretations.

· Perform a wide range of physically strenuous tasks as required.

· Work under routine and emergency conditions, in severe weather.

· Must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions and to complete tasks as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

· High School Diploma or equivalent.

· Valid Arizona driver’s license.

  • Tech 1- Grade 1 Water Distribution Certification from Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ)
  • Tech 2- Grade 2 Water Distribution Certification from ADEQ. Must obtain grade 3 within 12-months of hire. Must have 3 years of experience in water distribution operation or closely related field.

Desired Experience /Training

· Class "A" CDL.

· Experience in electrical control troubleshooting highly desirable.

· Experience with heavy equipment (backhoe, track hoe, and skid steer)

· Backflow tester certification highly desirable.

· Utility/underground construction experience.
