Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Principal, the Business Technology Teacher will be responsible for the overall coordination of teaching in their subject area including executing well-developed lesson plans, accurate assessment of student’s progress, and participation in school functions. The Business Technology Teacher’s responsibility is to plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program and foster a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. This role includes teaching students job skills and professional development. The Business Technology Teacher will have a chance to build on established fundamentals while creating new content and programs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Establish and execute student business training compliant with Mission.
  • Oversees the implementation of the Cristo Rey Network CWSP Curriculum.
  • Ensure collaboration with the academic program to promote student success.
  • Teach Technology classes for Freshmen and Sophomores.
  • Prepare students for Microsoft Office Specialist certifications in Word and Excel.
  • Introduce students to the basic concepts of writing computer code.
  • Introduce students to other elements of technology education, such as computer science, engineering, etc.
  • Summer Orientation Program: Plan, manage and execute Summer Orientation training program, preparation and team building sessions for new students, along with a refresher orientation of returning students.
  • Engage corporate partners, supervisors, and volunteers to assist with the program.
  • Responsible for teaching during the Summer Bridge Program.
  • Facilitate ongoing professional development such as corporate days of service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, education, information technology, or related field (required to be state certified in DC, MD, or VA 3 years from date of hire)
  • Completion of student teaching preferred; 2-4 years of experience preferred.
  • Experience teaching at the high school levels preferred.
  • Experience teaching one of the following subjects or multiple subjects (Technology or any other of the related disciplines in Technology) (Required)
  • Demonstrated understanding of educational technology integration in the classroom.
  • Demonstrated understanding of effective teaching strategies for different learning styles and aptitudes.
  • Experience with classroom instruction
  • Experience and sensitivity to working in a diverse multi-cultural environment.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in database, cloud-based, and/or learning management systems
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate classroom instruction to accommodate various learners
  • Computer proficiency in programs and digital platforms related to the job responsibilities including Microsoft & G-Suite Database Software; Spreadsheet Software; Word Processing Software; Electronic Mail Software; and Presentation software.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and corporate partners
  • Demonstrate ethnic, racial, and religious sensitivity of the student body
  • Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends as needed
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the School’s Mission
  • Have experience with youth from urban or low-income communities
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of the Catholic faith, beliefs and practices
  • Understanding and commitment to the educational mission of the Archdiocese of Washington, the Salesians of Don Bosco, and the vision of the Cristo Rey Network
