Description

The Automation Engineer has responsibility for development of tooling and machines for the automated assembly of mechanical and electrical devices. The Automation Engineer is responsible for design, procurement and deployment of assembly tooling, fixtures, control logic, and assembly nests supporting error proofed assembly for medium to high volume production. The engineer is responsible for plant/work area layout, equipment justification and use aimed toward maximum utilization of personnel, tools, equipment and material, and documenting manufacturing methods and sequences.

Requirements

Main Responsibilities

· Works with design engineering to develop cost effective, robust, manufacturable solutions to design problems

· Designs: Tools, Nests, Fixtures and Machines for fabrication of components and error proofed assembly of mechanical products 

· Develops fixtures, nests and poka-yoke tooling with associated PLC logic to control and capture production activity, and ensure safe and error proofed assembly of production end items.

· Coordinates vendors and outside contractors in the development of tools and assembly processes.

· Conducts Machine and Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis and develops detection and prevention methods and control plans to reduce risk and liability in end item assembly processes.

· Develops process flow maps and identifies potential bottle necks and costly operations and makes recommendations relative to quality, tooling and manufacturing processes.

· Conducts in-depth studies relative to justification of equipment purchases/modifications, work simplification, system standardization of parts, components assemblies and materials.

· Prepares and implements changes in existing plant layout and capital investments.

· Conducts time and motion studies. Assists in determining capacity and production standards.

· Estimates and validates production capacity via pilot builds and run-at-rate studies to establish labor content of end items.

· Develops work instructions for proper fabrication and assembly of medium to high volume products

· Develops process change plans, validates change effectiveness and implements changes in processes, time standards, and bills of material.

Qualifications and Experience

We believe that the ideal candidate has the following qualifications and experiences:

· Minimum Bachelors of Science or related degree in Engineering

· Preference given for experience in marine or vehicle controls markets
