Domestic Violence Action Center is Hiring a Vice President of Legal Services Near Honolulu, HI

The Domestic Violence Action Center is looking for our next Vice President of Legal Services. This position will be charged with building on DVAC's track record of success by working along side the CEO, management staff, community stakeholders, including businesses, elected leaders and policy makers, to provide high qualitiy effective legal services. They will sustain and manage delivery of responsive, trauma informed, legal services, quality Helpline communications and specialized outreach in our courts.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of senior management experience with increasing levels of responsibility and management of staff, program development, organizational management and legal expertise.
  • Must be able to practice law in Hawaii and possess a law degree from an accredited law school.
  • Must posses knowledge about domestic violence, family law system procedure's and community resources (safety net agencies)
  • Must have the ability to provide legal guidance for staff representing emotionally distraught individuals in Family Court.

Some Responsibilities include;

  • Oversee legal and program staff that includes staff attorneys, paralegals and Helpline Specialist.
  • Make assignment of legal cases to staff attorneys.
  • Monitor caseloads for balance in complexity, stage and case activity and existing workloads.
  • Supervise the recruitment, hiring and training of legal and helpline through participation in interviews and development of hiring criteria.
  • Facilitate performance counseling of legal and helpline and when necessary, participate in termination of these staff.
  • Assure that case reviews are conducted regularly with staff attorneys to ensure timely movement of cases and organization of files; staff compliance with standards of practice, and department policies and procedures need to be assessed.
  • Provide input to CEO about efficiency of agency systems, suitability of technology program services, legal services staff performance, program needs and training needs.
  • Arrange for coverage of court appearances for staff attorneys when attorneys are unable to attend.
  • Arrange for Helpline coverage when needed.
