Dollar Tree is Hiring a Senior Accountant Near Chesapeake, VA

Summary of Position (Job Purpose) - Major purpose and functions of the position.The Senior Accountant will report to the Manager, Financial Reporting and will be responsible for various tasks within the general ledger accounting function.Principal Duties and Responsibilities - Primary responsibilities listed in order of importance
  • Responsible for preparing, entering, and uploading journal entries into the Blackline system as part of month end close, including more complex accruals and calculations.
  • Process the monthly interfaces during month end close from subledger systems including inventory, leases, and treasury.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the chart of accounts and activating and inactivating accounting units.
  • Assist in the preparation of required United States Census Bureau, Statistics Canada, and Bureau of Economic Analysis filings.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the month end closing checklist throughout the period end close process.
  • Work with the accounting units before, during and after close to ensure that they have properly recorded all their transactions for the month including accruals and reclassifications. Sending and receiving pertinent information related to the classification, invoicing, and other accounting needs to complete monthly close.
  • Prepare account reconciliations, including accounts with a higher complexity, by verifying information in the general ledger system against supporting documentation. Identifying and noting changes since the prior period and ensuring that the account balance is recorded in accordance with GAAP.
  • Update/maintain accounting spreadsheets, databases, and other support. Apply Excel formula and formatting as needed with accuracy.
  • Execute new processes to account for transactions that arise from new contracts or agreements, etc.
  • Gather and assess information from the general ledger system and information provided by other departments.
  • Provide prompt customer service to various departments as needed via phone, email to meet business needs as requested.
  • Assist supervisor and management with associated business tasks as needed.
  • Follow all Company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications - Summary of knowledge, experience and education required.
  • Four-year college degree with Accounting or Finance concentration required
  • 2 – 5 years accounting experience required
  • Knowledge of accounting concepts
  • Applied knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook; Lawson or other ERP system experience preferred
  • Office work environment, 40 work hours per week (hybrid schedule up to 2 days at home per week)
  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude towards working in a team environment
  • Ability to organize work and meet deadlines
  • Ability to handle confidential information discretely
Desired Qualifications - Desired but not required.
  • Knowledge of query or other analytical tools
  • Knowledge/experience with use of a general ledger accounting system
