Summary Description
Dog Tag’s Capstone Instructor is responsible for delivering the organization’s five-month Capstone
Curriculum – one of the five core components of the Fellowship Program. The Capstone Curriculum
consists of guiding fellows through developing an entrepreneurial business concept, writing a
business plan, constructing a two-year budget, and creating and presenting a pitch presentation.
The Capstone Instructor works collaboratively with the Director of Programs and Community
Impact to ensure curriculum quality, integration, and successful outcome and serves as a trusted
educator and advisor for the DC and Chicago Cohorts.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
● Capstone Curriculum Review and Execution - Review existing curriculum to ensure its
relevance, effectiveness, and reflection of other Fellowship Program components. Set the
instruction schedule, homework assignments, and office hours.
● Capstone Instruction - Teach Capstone sessions virtually to fellows (90 minutes weekly),
develop supporting resources and provide time outside of class for one-on-one support and
guidance toward fulfilling Capstone deliverables. Includes developing resource materials
and identifying guest presenters.
● Review and Evaluation - Review and provide feedback on homework assignments, final
projects and deliverables. Work with the Director of Programs and Community impact to
plan the Capstone pitch presentations, including securing guest reviewers. Ensure overall
curriculum evaluation measures are in place to analyze insights from the data collected and
propose program delivery adjustments as necessary. In addition, enforce and update
Capstone Policies and ensures consistent application of those policies to all fellows.
● Program Collaboration - Update Capstone components of manuals and Fellowship Program
materials as needed; support orientation and closing week activities; provide all relevant
Dog Tag staff with updates on fellows’ projects, needs, and impact measures.
● Utilization of Technology - Utilize Google Drive for material development and cataloging;
Google Classroom platform for coursework resources, assignments and related
communication; and Salesforce to track and log interactions, needs, and other identified
metrics identified by the Programs Team and organization overall.
● Collaborate with the Chicago and DC Program Managers to provide support and resources to
fellows.
● Other duties as assigned.
● Estimated Time Required:
○ 1.5-2 hours weekly scheduled instructional time.
○ 2-3 hours weekly coaching/1:1 meetings, office hours.
○ 10-12 hours Homework/deliverables review and feedback (around key deliverable
due dates).
○ 1-2 hours weekly admin (scheduling, Google Classroom, Salesforce progress notes).
○ TOTAL: 80 - 100 hours over 18 weeks July - Dec.
Qualifications
● Minimum five years of work experience, particularly in fields related to business,
entrepreneurism, education and curriculum development. Graduate-level education may be
substituted for two years of work experience.
● Familiarity with adult education principles/needs; understanding of principles of
psychology/ social work a plus.
● Willingness to take the initiative and work with a dynamic team.
● Expert attention to detail.
● Well organized and timely.
● Acts as a team player who can interrelate effectively with peers within a collegial, yet
demanding, work environment.
● Comfortable speaking with diverse audiences; an excellent communicator.
● Strong critical thinking skills and ability to problem solve a range of issues.
● Comfort with ambiguity; openness to change; adaptive leadership style.
● Ability to demonstrate a high level of tact and discretion to maintain confidential/sensitive
information.
● Experience, skill, and comfort working with individuals who have experienced trauma or
lack self-confidence (e.g., many of our fellow struggle with Post Traumatic Stress
experiences and may require accommodations or additional support) a plus.
Key Performance Indicators
● Successful delivery of DC and Chicago Capstone Curriculum.
● Successful completion of Capstone requirements (plan, pitch, and budget) by all enrolled
fellows.
● Meet or exceed all timelines and quality expectations for data collection regarding the DC
and Chicago cohorts.
● Provide accurate and timely evaluation and reporting.
