This position is remote. Candidates may be required on occasion to visit the local office when/if needed.

This position works to maximize results and increase profitability for Patent Litigation matters and their attorney teams by performing financial analysis, management reporting, budgeting, resource management, and expense control. The Legal Project Manager supports the Patent Litigation’s practice management efforts. These efforts include analyzing Patent Litigation financial information at the group, client, and matter level; collaborating with multiple internal departments to encompass a variety of tasks related to pricing and profitability analysis; developing, implementing, and coordinating practice and legal project management platforms and tools, training Patent Litigation lawyers to use those tools and implementing best practices in matter management. 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field 
  • 10 years' experience practicing as a Patent Litigation attorney; with particular experience with Patent Litigation’s administrative proceedings, the lifecycle of a matter from inception to trial, and the costs associated with same (discovery, motion practice, preparing for trial)
  • Experience with filings with various courts and jurisdictions, such as Federal District Courts, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and the International Trade Commission
  • Proven ability to synthesize and analyze financial data and prepare reports to assist in making project management and financial-related decisions and making risk assessments on Patent Litigation matters
  • Strong communication skills and ability to successfully consult, collaborate and inspire confidence and trust with the firm’s senior partners, lawyer-leaders, and staff leaders
  • Outstanding organizational skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-level priorities in a fast-paced and sometimes global environment to successful conclusions in a timely manner 
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite applications, specifically MS Excel and spreadsheet/database applications
  • Ability to work well as part of a team, potentially large and/or global 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) with a disputes or litigation focus
  • Project management certification (PMP) or similar certification

What will your day look like?As the Lead Project Manager, you will prepare financial information for the Patent Litigation group. You will examine accounting and financial records to ensure data accuracy and develop reports on monthly performance. You will regularly meet with the Patent Litigation Leaders, financial personnel, and Intellectual Property practice group director to review and discuss results and maintain positive financial control. You will also provide technical expertise in preparing reports and summaries, creating and maintaining templates, analysis, cost findings, and management briefings.

Additionally, you will analyze and report group and firm metrics and compare financial and operational performance against internal and external benchmarks. You will identify trends in financial performance and provide recommendations for improvement. You will also understand law firm economics and our firm’s financial system and related financial tools to train partners, attorneys, and other Patent Litigation personnel on law firm economics and the Firm’s Matter Management methodologies.

You will also perform annual budgeting analysis and prospective modeling to predict period-end performance and determine the impact of proposed initiatives. You will assist Service Delivery leadership in coordinating tasks with the analyst-level resources and provide direction and work product review as needed. You will assist in developing strategic plans and ensure that the strategic planning process stays on track. You will undertake special projects in support of the Firm's strategic initiatives and collaborate with Business Intelligence and IT on the development of client-level and matter-level progress reports. Physical Demands, Work Environment, and Other Requirements Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met. 

The expected annual pay range for this position, if hired to work in Los Angeles, San Diego or Seattle is $139,989 - $208,239 per year. If hired to work in New York the expected annual pay range is $146,352 - $217,705 per year. If hired to work in Palo Alto or San Francisco the expected annual pay range is $152,715 - $227,170 per year. The compensation offered to a candidate selected for employment will be dependent upon various factors, including the candidate’s geographic market, skills, educational and professional background, experience, and overall qualifications.
