MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR

Pay: $16 - $18

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the facilitation of therapy in a variety of specific identified needs including the implementation of an individualized treatment plan, documentation of therapeutic experience via report writing and communication with referral sources and other professionals, and to provide an atmosphere conducive to wellness.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS

Responsible to: The entire client community in an outpatient counseling setting with emphasis on providing primary care to clients in a clinical capacity. Directly supervised by the Director of Clinical Operations, Outpatient Operations Manager, and Outpatient Operations Coordinator.

Interrelationships: Interacts ongoing with the management team, co-workers, referral sources, and other significant parties needed to enhance the client’s rehabilitation experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement a treatment plan that addresses the needs of the youth with input from the client, referring agency, Director of Clinical Operations, Outpatient Operations Manager, and Outpatient Operations Coordinator.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions with all youth and family members on a consistent basis.
  • Assume primary care to youths assigned to caseload.
  • Provide for the safety, security, and appropriate social interaction and social behavior of all youth in the program.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with the entire treatment team.
  • Present didactic education to client, community, and co-workers as delegated by a supervisor.
  • Serve as a liaison with all outside agencies and school personnel.
  • Participate in consultation sessions with the Mental Health Professional, as well as monthly clinical supervision meetings with the Director of Clinical Operations, Outpatient Operations Manager, and Outpatient Operations Coordinator.
  • Serve as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Maintain professional documentation duties, i.e. Individual Treatment Plan updates, 60-day reports, incident reports, and other responsibilities delegated by the Director of Clinical Operations, Operations Manager, and Operations Coordinator.
  • Demonstrate a standard of conduct that provides effective role modeling for client population and peer group.
  • Present accurate clinical information to referral sources, family members, and in court as requested.
  • Plan and implement therapeutic, recreational, and educational events.
  • Facilitate appropriate discipline through therapeutic intervention as needed.
  • Improve level of competence through participation in ongoing supervision and attend on and off-site training seminars.
  • Participate in an on-call schedule. The schedule will be communicated to staff on a regular basis.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the Director of Clinical Operations, Operations Manager, or Operations Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a behavioral sciences field.

Experience and Training: Minimum of three years experience in behavioral healthcare services for children and adolescents. A minimum of two years experience working directly with abuse or trauma victims. Must have, or be in training, to receive certification in the treatment of sexually aggressive youth in at least a 60-credit hour academic and practicum program with competency evaluation and testing. Certification is a requirement within six months of the date of hire.

Job Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of DTAC functions, clinical philosophy, and awareness of the DPW laws related to juvenile rehabilitation.
