ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FACILITY SERVICES


General Responsibilities

  • Enhance the overall experience of students, staff, parents, and visitors in our district buildings
  • Direct day-to-day supervision of Facility Services employees within the Operations Department, primarily focusing on cleanliness, light maintenance, and event support
  • Supervise and manage department employees
  • Monitor the quality of cleaning and light maintenance work being done throughout the district
  • Coordinate with outside contractors as warranted
  • Prioritize work that needs to be done
  • Work with the Deputy Director of Facilities and Operations, building staff, and district administrators to understand the needs and priorities of the district
  • Understand and balance the budget constraints of the department when making decisions
  • Communicate within the facilities department and across the various operations teams, including maintenance, technology, food service, and transportation.
  • Clear verbal and written communication and the ability to learn various computer and building systems
  • Capable in using e-mail, MicroSoft Word and Excel programs with the ability to learn building control systems
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with co-workers and staff
  • Respond in a courteous and helpful manner to all members of the community, treating them as our customers
  • Address performance issues within the facilities department as needed
  • Address personnel concerns within the department in an effective manner to maximize the customer experience
  • Problem solve
  • Communicate problems through the chain of command in an appropriate manner
  • Support the overall goals of the district and Operations Department
  • Work with vendors, including oversight of vendors while they are working, and the calling of service vendors to resolve building cleaning and maintenance and service issues
  • Schedule facility services staff to work overtime as needed.
  • Additional duties as directed by the Director of Operations

  • Basic Mechanical Aptitude – This position requires a person who has a basic understanding of mechanical equipment and building maintenance

  • Ability to define a reasonable amount of time that a task should take, and hold employees to perform at that level of production
  • Scheduling the work in a manner that assures all tasks get completed

Reports To: Director of Operations and Facilities

Salary Range: Starting at $52,000 and commensurate with experience and qualifications

Shift Type: Full Time (52 weeks)

WHO ARE WE? Cedar Springs Public Schools is a Preschool through 12th-grade public school consisting of over 3,500 students and nearly 400 employees. We are located within the city limits of Cedar Springs, Michigan in Kent County. Cedar Springs Public Schools is one of 20 member public school districts within the Kent Intermediate School District (KISD). We are unique in that our schools are all located within a single campus setting with the exception of the Middle School which is located 1 mile south of the main campus. The setting is secure, picturesque, and allows easy access for families participating in activities for more than one child.
