TITLE: Mentoring & Induction Coordinator(s)

TYPE OF POSITION: Part-time; 2023-2024 school year

STIPEND: $2000

LOCATION: District, Hopkinton, Massachusetts

The Mentoring & Induction Coordinator works in partnership with the Assistant Superintendent, Principals and fellow Mentor Coordinator to facilitate, lead and support mentoring and induction for educators new to the district. The Coordinators will help provide oversight and direction for the program, and ensure that all mentors understand and carry out the District’s expectations for the induction program. The Mentoring and Induction Coordinator reports to the Assistant Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum three (3) years teaching experience in the Hopkinton Public Schools;
  2. Licensed in an appropriate subject area and level, by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, to include Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement;
  3. Bachelor's Degree, Master’s preferred, from an accredited college or university, in a related field;
  4. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing;
  5. Strong presentation and facilitation skills;
  6. Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies;
  7. Prior training and experience as a mentor for new teachers;
  8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and in conformity with state certification requirements.

DUTIES:

  1. Supports the recruitment of mentors in partnership with Principals;
  2. Collaborates with Principals in pairing mentors with educators new to Hopkinton, including mid-year appointments and any potential pairing changes as needed;
  3. Collaborates with the Assistant Superintendent’s office to maintain records of trained mentors, trainings and other records as necessary;
  4. Serves as a resource to mentors and mentees;
  5. Provides overall supervision and oversight of and support for all mentors:

*Facilitates and/or procures mentor training to ensure an adequate number of trained mentors;
*Ensures that all mentors understand and carry out the District’s expectations for the induction program, mentor logs, observations and other induction program requirements;
*Facilitates mentor compensation; submits names of those who will receive compensation to Human Resources;
*Supports all new educators and mentors as needed, and when problems arise between mentors and mentees, troubleshoots and provides support, as well as keeping administration apprised. (If issues become highly involved, the responsible administrator will be available to step in.);
*Conducts one or more meetings with all mentors annually;

  1. In collaboration with fellow Coordinator and the Assistant Superintendent, assist with the planning, development, implementation and review of the District’s mentoring and induction program and materials, including:

*New Educator Orientation, including the facilitation of the first meeting of the mentors and mentees at the orientation;
*Induction workshops for new educators during the school year;
*Induction program for new educators without professional licensure in their second and third years;

  1. Collects and reviews mentoring logs;
  2. Carries out an annual evaluation of the mentor program and makes recommendations to the Assistant Superintendent for program improvement;
  3. Other duties, as assigned.
