The Employment Specialist is responsible for providing assistance to our customers in identifying and obtaining competitive community employment. Conducts intake assessments to determine the appropriateness of employment placement, including, but not limited to, the demands of job location and feasibility of services. Maintains appropriate documentation records, case logs, notes, etc. as required and/or requested; maintains communications with the customer and referral source; and all other related activities. May include travel in the field for meetings with clients for the purpose of developing job leads.The job duties entail:
Bachelors degree in human service field (i.e. special education, counseling) required. Advanced degree preferred. Must have a minimum of 1 year experience working with disabled individuals preferably in vocational counseling of special populations. Experience in case management also preferred. Substantial knowledge of vocational rehabilitation and employment services for the disabled, including, techniques of counseling for motivation appropriate to workplace situations. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Ability to establish rapport with customer; to evaluate customer progress, observe behavior, communicate observations and recommendations effectively in written and oral form. Must have active listening, social perceptiveness, and critical thinking and decision making skills. Ability to work well under pressure and handle large case loads. Must demonstrate the professional and personal characteristics required to work effectively with disabled individuals, members of the community, and other diverse people. High level of credibility, integrity, professionalism, and trust required. Ability to travel. Working knowledge of Microsoft software ( Excel and Word), mobile/cellular communication device, and specialized testing materials/equipment required. Must possess valid driving license and meet insurance driving standards and drug screening requirements. Occasional holiday, weekend and evening work required. Must speak/read/write English. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
