Disabled Persons Action Organization has an immediate opening for an Assistant Coordinator in our Short Term Respite Program.
Schedule: The prospective employee will work 35 hours weekly, and up to 40 if necessary and approved. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm/5:00pm, with 2-3 evening activities per week. Hours will vary based on activities planned and the needs of the individuals we serve. Additionally, 2-3 weekend activities are required per month.
Rate of Pay:$17.00 per hour
Program Information/Job Description: This program provides relief to parents/caregivers who are responsible for the primary care of their loved one that has a developmental/intellectual disability. Whether the parent/caregiver needs to go grocery shopping, has to deal with an emergency or illness, or just needs time for themselves to relax. The Short Term Respite Program is designed to ensure that an individuals' stay is as relaxing and as much fun as possible.
The Assistant Coordinator will assist the Program Coordinator with the supervision of all individuals attending program. executing all activities, activity planning, ensuring adequate staffing for the needs for the program, and completing all required program documentation. Examples of activities include, but are not limited to: swimming, bowling, attending community events, going to the movies (“Movie Night”), holiday dances & celebrations, participation in parades, exercise including Zumba and Tai Chi, and many more as scheduled by the Coordinator of the program.

Paid Time Off: The agency's paid time off package includes vacation time after six months, 2 weeks of vacation after one year, 3 weeks of vacation after 5 years and 4 weeks of vacation after 10 years. Also, four personal days per year, 12 sick days per year, and 12 holidays off with pay. If required to work on a holiday based on the needs of the program, the holiday can be saved and used within the month.
Education/Experience Requirements:
· Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency
· Two (2) years of experience working with the developmentally disabled or a similar field (preferred)
· Must possess knowledge of principles and practices of the supervision of children and adults with developmental disabilities (former Direct Support Professional experience required) and have good written, verbal and organization skills
· Candidate must be physically able to work a direct care position, which requires you, the applicant, to be physically able to complete all job duties that are required which can include, but are not limited to: bathing, dressing, grooming, lifting/pulling/pushing, must be physically capable of transferring, assisting with transfers and lifting person(s) who require physical assistance and must be able to reach and bend as they assist participants with physical activities.
· Valid Driver License and a favorable driving record. An abstract of the prospective employees' driving record will be obtained by D.P.A.O. if issued in New York State. If issued outside of New York State, the applicant will be required to supply an abstract of their driving record from the issuing state.
