Job Description

We are the FIS Embedded Finance team, and our mission is to enable developers across all verticals to imagine, create and monetize financial products to profoundly transform the way the entire financial industry consumes services. Today, it's difficult for many businesses to build the financial products they imagine. Whether that's launching a new credit or debit card, a savings account, a lending business, or anything else — there are barriers in the way, that require excessive time and effort. We make it trivially easy for businesses to compliantly offer financial products, and innovate on their key differentiators rather than spend all their time building and maintaining financial infrastructure.

We are looking for a Senior leader of Software Development to help us build a brand-new financial technology platform for the future. This is a true builder role, inventing solutions that meet our customer needs in a new space. We are looking for someone who will take a nascent product/service and help launch and scale it. If you’re passionate about creating a culture of innovation, this role is for you. Building and maintaining scalable systems is your specialty, and you aren’t afraid of making changes to make progress. Whether it’s driving architecture, organizational changes, or deconstructing a complex process to find a straightforward solution – you’re a dedicated problem solver. And behind every action you take, is a desire to create positive impact for customers, business, or technology teams.

Your canvas:

  • Invest in Brilliance: You'll champion a culture of learning and growth, attracting the industry's best minds with unparalleled benefits, career development programs, and a relentless pursuit of innovation.
  • Grow Leaders, not Followers: Empower your team to own their decisions, embrace autonomy, and challenge the status quo. Guide them, not control them, and watch them flourish into the next generation of tech titans.
  • Influence, not Dictate: Your vision will be your compass, not your whip. Earn trust through collaboration, transparency, and a deep understanding of each engineer's strengths. Lead by example, inspire through dialogue, and watch your ideas take flight.

Note: This position is based in the greater Seattle/Bellevue, WA area. We plan to bring the team together regularly for design, ideation, and connection building.

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES

  • Leadership: Build and cultivate a high-performing engineering team with a passion for cloud-native principles, microservices architecture, and continuous delivery. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and ownership.
  • Technology Vision: Define the platform's technical roadmap and architecture, evangelizing best practices and aligning with business objectives. Stay ahead of industry trends and ensure our platform utilizes the latest advancements in cloud-native technologies.
  • Delivery Excellence: As a hands-on Manager, work closely with product management and your team to define the roadmap and manage delivery. Drive high-quality code, excellent performance, and seamless scalability.
  • Operational Excellence: Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for system health, performance, and security. Lead efforts to prevent outages and ensure the platform's continuous availability.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with product, design, and other cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Ensure clear communication and alignment throughout the development process.
  • Talent: Attract and retain top engineering talent. Foster a culture of learning and development, providing opportunities for growth and mentorship within the team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 9 years experience in software development
  • 7 years of industry experience of increasing responsibility running engineering teams
  • Deep understanding of cloud-native principles, microservices architecture, and containerization technologies (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve ambitious goals.
  • Experience leading projects from architectural design to production, while setting and maintaining high standards of technical excellence across your team.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, asynchronous architectures, and distributed algorithms.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, and a history of working effectively with your team and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or directly related field from an accredited college or university.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in computer science or directly related field.
  • Experience in FinTech, payments, or banking systems.
  • Experience designing and implementing APIs for third-party developers
  • Strong technical credentials, with at least 12 years of technical engineering leadership, with 5 years of experience in large scale distributed system development including hands on operational experience.
  • Proven experience with full development life cycle for large-scale software products including extensive experience with service-oriented architectures, design patterns and web services.
