DSSW Seeking Accounting Specialist in San Antonio 78201

Accounting/Finance Students Encouraged to apply!

Full time/Part time – hours flexible.

Monday – Friday $17/hr

Position Summary: The Accounting Specialist ensures accurate accounting records. Duties include performing a variety of clerical and entry-level accounting tasks.

Tasks:

• Mail out accounts payable checks to vendors on a weekly basis.

• Daily deposit of checks.

• Maintain and distribute Detail Cash Reports daily.

• Reconcile cash accounts on a monthly basis.

• Perform accounts payable accounting functions including receiving and matching invoices, account coding, preparation of disbursements and accounts payable related record keeping.

• Code invoices with account numbers according to distribution in the general ledger; determine dates for invoices to be paid; keypunch invoices into computerized accounts payable system. Maintain alphabetical open invoice file for unpaid invoices.

• Review invoices scheduled for payment and special check requests with Controller, print approved checks, and prepare and route for signature according to check signing authority.

• Maintain accounting files and locate information as needed.

• Observe confidentiality policies at all times.

• Comply with federal, state, & company policies, procedures, and regulations.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Effective organizational skills with strong attention to detail.

• Good math skills are required.

• Excellent interpersonal relations skills, including active listening skills such as giving full attention to what others are saying, taking time to understand points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.

• Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions to complete assigned tasks.

• Willingness to work with health care professionals, clients, families, and the general public.

• Written and verbal communication skills are required to communicate effectively as appropriate to the needs of the audience.

• Must be able to read, write and comprehend English; must be able to communicate efficiently in English.

Experience and Education:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Must have at least six (6) months clerical experience.

• Must be able to demonstrate competence with computer applications such as MS Word and Excel and have the ability to readily learn agency specific software.

• Proficiency in the use of database and spreadsheet software strongly desired.

• Must be able to type 35 wpm and be proficient in 10-key adding machine.

Physical Requirements:

• Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.

• Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.

• Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with words, hand(s) or arm(s); for example, using the keyboard.

• Communication skills using the spoken word.

• Ability to see within normal parameters.

• Ability to hear within normal range.

• Ability to move about.
