Position Title: Independent Living (IL) Specialist
Department: Independent Living
Job Type: Full-time
Reports to: Program Director
Compensation: $20-$22/hour DOE
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
General Position Summary:
The Independent Living Specialist will follow the Independent Living Philosophy to provide a variety of independent living services to persons with disabilities with the goal and intent of providing opportunities for people with disabilities to successfully live independently in the community.
The Independent Living Specialist will work with program participants to set independent living goals. Based on these goals, the IL Specialist may provide direct or indirect assistance, resources, or training to meet those goals and/or address other needs of the program participants.
Specific Job Skills:
· Thinks strategically and critically to solve problems
· Effectively and accurately prioritizes competing demands and is able to plan ahead
· Completes work within deadlines
· Completes participant requests and goals in a timely fashion
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and procedures
· Skills in using computer software to accomplish word processing, spreadsheets, and email. Ability to learn new software with ease
· Ability to create and maintain positive, professional relationships with program participants and colleagues
Education and/or Experience:
· 2 years’ experience providing services to individuals with disabilities
· Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work, or other related fields*
· Knowledge of Olmstead, Americans with Disabilities Act, Rehabilitation Act, and WIOA
· Personal experience as a person with disability and/or other skills necessary to establish effective peer relationships
*Additional Experience may substitute for education on a case-by-case basis
