Bernards Elementary School teacher is responsible for delivery of instruction that is based on the approved curricula and mission of the school and to create a safe, orderly and Catholic learning environment for his/her students.Reports to The Principal Educational Requirements Bachelors Degree in Education or a related field of study from an accredited college or university. Master's Degree in education or a related field of study preferred. CertificationCurrent Massachusetts Educator License (or other current state license) or actively in the process of obtaining a Massachusetts Educator Licensure certification. Documentation required.
For teachers of Religion - Master Catechist certification, proof of comparable certification through a comparable program in another Diocese or Archdiocese or willingness to enrollment in the program leading to the Master Catechist certification through the Diocese of Worcesters Office of Religious Education. Schedule Follows the school calendar. A classroom teacher does not work on school vacation weeks. The classroom teacher will work a limited schedule (hours and days to be set in consultation with the Principal) as needed at the end of the school year for professional development and prior to the first day of school.
Hours 8:15 AM to 3:30 PM A part time position reflects a portion of this schedule. PlanningCreates lesson plans that align with approved academic and religious standards.Utilizes standardized test scores and other forms of assessment to adjust lesson plans and inform instruction.Plans lessons that are learner based. Plans lessons that address the various needs of individual students, small groups and the entire classroom. InstructionDelivers a balanced program of instruction that incorporates direct instruction, guided instruction, individual/ group practice, questioning, demonstration and discovery.
Plans individual and group instruction that includes lecture, discussion and hands-on activities. Administers assessments (both formal and informal) to determine if instructional objectives are being met.Uses assessment data to differentiate instruction to assure that the diverse needs of all students are met.Assigns and grades class work and homework that supports the objective of the lesson and re-enforces the learning process.Classroom Management Assures that Catholic values are the basis of all interactions between students and the teacher.Establishes and clearly communicates classroom procedures that optimize instructional time.Creates and enforces rules that are clear and foster an atmosphere in which all can thrive. Maintains a positive learning environment based on mutual respect and cooperation.Sets high expectations for behavior and academic achievement. CommunicationRoutinely, on a weekly basis, updates/posts real time information (homework, projects and grades) on class/subject to the schools grade book portal Gradelink.Maintains an online and paper grade book that reflects students progress on a variety of formative and summative assessments.Monitors students grades and communicates status to parents and administration.
Informs students and parents of assignments/projects and provides detailed written instructions, rubrics and due dates.Uses email, notes home and phone calls to inform parents if a student is not making adequate academic or behavior progress.Holds conferences with parents if students need academic or behavior intervention Produces progress reports and report cards as scheduled during each trimester.Non-Instructional DutiesPerforms duties such as lunch, recess lunch and dismissal supervision as scheduled.Substitutes for other classroom teachers as needed.Sponsors clubs or other school activities when asked.Attends limited after school or evening school events when asked.Participates in all faculty meetings.Participates in professional development as scheduled by the Diocese of Worcester or the school during school hours.
