Description
SUMMARY
The parish RCIA and Formation Coordinator, under the direction of the pastor, is responsible for the overall direction of RCIA, Marriage preparation, Baptism preparation, Bible Study and Book Studies.
This person is responsible for overseeing the catechetical program of the parish in conformity with the teachings of the Catholic Church especially as set forth in the Second Vatican Council, General and National Directory of Catechesis, and Catechism of the Catholic Church.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversees, coordinates, and implements the overall direction of the parish catechetical programs for non-baptized and baptized adults seeking Full Communion with the Catholic Church.
- Develops and implements a coherent and unified curriculum for RCIA with the direction of the pastor.
- Coordinates all liturgical functions of RCIA, including RCI liturgical calendar.
- Coordinates and attends the various Rites throughout the year.
- Coordinates, plans, and executes all non Sunday RCI events.
- Responsible for teaching and working with the RCIA team to ensure they’re provided with the necessary resources and educational materials.
- Educates the parish leadership and parish community concerning the RCIA process and the primary role the community plays in that process.
- Assists with those seeking Marriage in the Catholic Church.
- Assists with families requesting to have their children Baptized in the Catholic Faith.
- Responsible for administration functions such as maintenance of sacramental records Baptism, Marriage, and all records pertaining to RCIA.
- Prepares the annual budget for RCIA and Formation programs for review by the pastor and the business manager.
- Participates in diocesan, local, regional, and national organizations related to catechetics.
- Attends meetings and participates in staff meetings of the parish.
- Coordinates and implements Bible and book studies for the parish community with the direction of the pastor.
- Performs other duties as assigned or determined by the pastor.
SUPERVISORY
The parish catechetical leader has supervisory responsibility for the RCIA program.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS

CATHOLIC FAITH
Practice of the Catholic faith is required. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church.
Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies or related field, or equivalent experience and education as well as spiritual leadership skills.
- Three (3) or more years of experience in parish ministry, including lay ministry or ministry leadership responsibilities.
- Will be required to obtain a Master Catechist Certification by the Diocesan Office of Religious Education / Secretariat for Evangelization and Family Life.
- Must pass diocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Effective communication, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of Catholic doctrine and beliefs as presented in the documents of the Second Vatican Council, the Catechism of the Catholic Church and other relevant ecclesial documents and publications.
- Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals in a respectful, cooperative manner. Ensuring a strong and collaborative working relationship with staff, catechists, and parishioners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Publisher.
- Possess a valid Florida driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, hear, and see up close and from afar.
Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form.
