Job Title: Dialysis Patient Care Technician

The Dialysis Patient Care Technician will be crucial in providing high-quality care to patients undergoing dialysis treatment. This position involves direct patient interaction, support, and assistance and requires a solid commitment to improving the lives of individuals with kidney-related health issues.

Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Care and Support:

- Assist in preparing and setting up dialysis equipment and supplies.

- Provide direct patient care and support during dialysis sessions, including monitoring vital signs and patient comfort.

- Help patients with activities of daily living, such as positioning, ambulation, and personal care.

  1. Equipment Maintenance:

- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of dialysis machines and equipment according to established protocols.

- Report any malfunctions or issues with equipment to the appropriate staff members.

  1. Data Recording and Documentation:

- Accurately record and maintain patient information, treatment data, and vital signs.

- Ensure proper documentation of patient care and equipment.

  1. Infection Control:

- Follow strict infection control protocols to maintain a safe and clean environment in the dialysis unit.

- Adhere to universal precautions and sterilization procedures.

  1. Patient Education:

- Educate patients and their families on dialysis procedures, treatment options, and self-care.

- Offer guidance on diet and fluid restrictions as per the healthcare provider's recommendations.

  1. Emergency Response:

- Be prepared to respond to emergencies and complications that may arise during dialysis sessions.

- Administer basic life support (BLS) if required.

  1. Collaboration:

- Collaborate closely with the dialysis nursing team to ensure the best care for patients.

- Communicate effectively with healthcare providers and support staff.

Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent; have a Certificate as a Hemodialysis Technician.

- 2 years of previous experience as a dialysis technician.

- Basic life support (BLS) certification is required.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

- Ability to work well in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.

- Ability to travel between hospitals throughout the Portland / Vancouver area.

- Ability to work long days when needed.

- Compassionate and patient-focused attitude.

- Attention to detail and the ability to follow established protocols.

- Knowledge of infection control and safety procedures.

- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Working Conditions:

- The Dialysis Patient Care Technician's daily duties will vary from patient care, stocking supplies, and disinfecting equipment.

- May be required to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
