POSITION SUMMARY:

Perform selected administrative/clerical duties that assist in the delivery of overall patient care and customer satisfaction under the direction of a physician and office manager. These duties are delegated in relation to the individual's degree of training, in accordance with the objectives and policies of the organization and respective state laws governing such action and activities. Is responsible for coordinating patient scheduling and daily work assignments and serves as a resource for sonographers. Suggests changes in procedures, policies, and quality improvement, as well as coordinates training and development of the Sonographers, keeping them advised of technological changes. As a member of the care team, the Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer Supervisor is responsible for working collaboratively with other Sonographers to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Associate of Science degree in radiology, diagnostic ultrasound, or a certificate of successful completion from an accredited school of ultrasound or recognized educational program
  • ARDMS certification is required
  • BLS certification required
  • At least three (5) years of experience as a General Sonographer strongly preferred.
  • Must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
  • Secretarial experience and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English required. Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
  • Hospital experience preferred
  • Computer knowledge required

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE :

  • Able to demonstrate high degree of competency and experience of ultrasound procedures.
  • Present images and preliminary findings to physicians and the healthcare team
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, HIPAA, MIPS, MACRA and other governmental programs
  • Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment
  • Must project a professional image
  • Must be competent in performing OB/High Risk patients
  • Must have excellent customer service skills
  • Previous payroll experience editing a plus

Responsibilities:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices
  • Performs necessary quality control and maintenance on equipment.
  • Performs all ultrasound procedures as per procedure protocols.
  • Regularly communicates and collaborates with the sonographers regarding ultrasound procedures, policies, and quality improvement, as well as participates in orientation and development of the sonographers.
  • Provide input for annual performance appraisals and recruitment and assists the Manager with the coordination of holiday and call coverage
  • Performs at a proficient level, all tasks within the specialty area.
  • Maintains sonographer work schedule to provide appropriate coverage
  • Serves as a daily resource for all questions from providers, management, and staff
  • Assists in disciplinary actions, and hiring of staff.
  • Edits payroll and ensures timely submission of time to payroll dept, including management of overtime and PTO requests
  • Acts as liaison between IT and office, troubleshoots issues with equipment
  • Acts as a back-up for staff dealing with hospital consults for physicians
  • Updates and educates staff on changes affecting the practice relating to all subjects, including but not limited to billing, insurance, OSHA, HIPAA, MU, PQRS, etc.
  • Orders supplies as needed
  • Report any/all equipment failures or office issues to the Manager
  • Documents all pertinent patient information on worksheets for Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor to interpret.
  • Ensures exams are verified and completed for charging on PACS/RIS systems.
  • Responsible for training sonographers with the appropriate procedure protocols.
  • Maintain American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), Texas Department of Health (TDH), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and Joint Commission standards.
  • Maintain equipment and procedure competencies.
  • Able to operate all appropriate clinical equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Complete and update all employment requirements, including Healthstream, Employee Health, and Credentials, etc.
  • Responsible for earning and submitting the continuing education units to maintain American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification.
  • Other duties as apparent or assigned.

B. Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
